There is some excitement about
working on the T. & A. A. bridge.
Monday a chain slipped and William
Mack and a crowbar fell about 10 feet,
thence dropping down about seventeen

workman took his seventh tumble into
the river, Monday afternoon.
Are men with whiskers more liable
to la grippe than men who shave clean.
Some doctors say that flowing beards,
in addition to tempting tornadoes to
blow through them, undoubtedly attract and retain la grippe microbes.
From inquiries it seems that bewhisker-
ed gentlemen have suffered more from
ihe disease than those who walk about
with clean-shayen faces. This is not intended as an advertisement for ourbar-

Not long since a married lady living
not more than a hundred miles from
here, says the North Adams News, who
was in well-to-do circumstances, but
could not read or write, was calling on a
friend, and to make the people believe
she knew more than she really did, she
asked them to lend her a book that was
laying on the center table aud which
happened to be none other than the
bible, and which they willingly consented to let her tales. After keeping
the book a few days she returned it,and
on being asked how she liked it, re-
X)lied: "It was fine. They got married,
didu't they?"—Hillsdale Standard.
