NEIGHBORHOOD GLEANINGS.
It is rumored that Adrian's old-time
"Kid Mayor" Tom Navin, has secured
the exclusive right to sell peanuts on
tbe world's fair grounds. Tom will yet
surprise those people who think be will
never amount to shucks.—Hudson Gazette.
Washteuaw county ought to be wall
represented at the World's Fair. It
ought to show the world that it is one
of the best agricultural counties in thtj
country as the government statistics
make it out to be, as well as the seat of
the greatest universityin America. It
behooves everyone who has anything
better than his neighbors to think
about exhibiting it for tbe honor of bis
county. If you have anything to exhibit, talk to one of tbe World's Fail-
county committeemen.—Argus.
Deputy Sheriffs McCabe and Campion
arrested on Monday evening Charles
Deible, of Lodi. Deible bas been violently insane for about a year. He informed the officers that his bead flew
off in the hay field last summer; that a
physician took out his ribs and did not
put them back right, and that his brothers stole all his blood. The officers
have been obliged to sit up at tbft jail
every night with him, iu order to prevent suicide. Deible will have a hearing in the probato .court tor-morrow.—

"My wife asked me to order
of pounds of Spanish mackere'
the house this morning and
it," said Mr. Hodger as he entered Ms
office and hung up his hat and coat.
„I wish the first one of you young
men who- finds a little leisure time
would step out and speak to the
groceryman on tbe corner. Have it
charged to me." A general nod bowed the heads of all tbe assembled
clerks and I made a niemoradiim of
"two pounds of S. mack, chge," on the
margin of a blotter, proposing to attend to the errand myself as soon as I
finished a balance-sheet.
It was 10"o'clock then, and an hour
later I exchanged my office-coat for a
street garment, and walked around to
the grocoryman's. There were some
reasons why I was anxious to please
Mr. Hodger, by whom. I had been employed for a year without advancement, so, having charged the mackerel
as ordered", I took the fish under my
arm and hurried up-town to "Hodger's
residence. "It's only a little tbing,"
I said to myself, "but the old man
may notice it. Mebbe he'll think it
shows a regard for detail on my part,
or a desire to do things exactly right.
A couple of dollars a week more would
come in handy just now, and—and one
can't tell."
I pulled the bell at the basement
door and Mr. Hodger's servant-girl
answered it with what at the
thought, and have since believe,
markable alacrity. I noticed al
