SALINE,
Is the title of a neat book containing a
list of about 9000 families who will accommodate visitors to Chicago during
the time of the Fair. It gives their
names and addresses, and number of
rooms each will have to .spare; also
gives a list of the leading hotels and
their location; also contains twelve full-
page hu-ge scale maps, each numbared,
representing a section of the city; also
a double-page key map, divided into
sections, each section representing one
of the large, scale page maps, and being; numbered to correspond. With
this book,iutending visitors can readily
decide and select the quarter of the
city in which they would like to be
located, and then enter into correspondence with one or more families, and
thus arrange for satisfactory aud comfortable accommodations at reasonable
rates.
This book was compiled at great expense by a trustworthy Chicago firm,
after a house to house canvas through
the most desirable portions of the city.
It is reliable, and great care was exercised to select reputable, places. By
its use people will avoid the expense
and trouble incident to securing a place
after arrival in the city.
Tliis book can be obtained through the
ticket agent of the Lake Shore Rail---
way in this city by calling upon hipi.

Tent Frozen Combs,
One of the great complaints against
the winter layers is that the nonx>roduc-
tion of eggs is due largely to frozen
combs and improper feed and care. The
high combed varieties, such as the Leghorn, Minorca and others, suffer considerably dmir j cold weather from frozen
combs. Cutting or dubbing the combs
of the young fowls has been practiced so
long now that many do not consider it a
cruel custom any more than dehorning
cattle.
.Quito a number of poultry raisers
a'dopt this custom regularly, reasoning
thai: the fowls suffer less from the operation than they do from the cold if tho

The eoihb is a, very sensitive portion of
the fowl, and the slightest freezing
weather -will affect it. Moreover, it is
pretty certain that this freezing operation has a direct injnrions eSect upon
the "bints powers of egg producing. If
the coinhs of the large varieties have not
heen cut when young care should ho
taken to keep them from being frozen.
A dailv application of sweet oil on the
comb will tead to prevent this freezing,
although it does not act as an infallible
proof against tho cold.
j By feeding the poultry the proper food
now we not only make them produce an
I abundance of eggs, but strong, healthy
chicks can be hatched out of them in the
spring. The hens will also be in good
health for the summer season and ready
for the market after a few days' fattening. Onr past experience has taught n.s
that while special food.'sueh as lime and
oyster shells for egg producing and sulphur for feather growth, may be all
right, the main esSential of the all around
food must not be forgotten. If the whole
system is kept in perfect order and
health the hens will lay eggs.
Experience of the past has taught ns
that good st.und grain, such as wheat,
"buckwheat, sunflower seed, boiled or
steamed oatc, with plenty of clean water
and coarse, sharp gravel, with all the
cabbage and turnips they will devour,
are the proper lands of food, if given one
kind of grain at each meal, with an occasional feed of boiled and mashed pota-
