MAYOR HARRISON'S HOUSE.
Tbe Spacious and Comfortable Ham* at
Chicago's Chief Executive.
Carter Harrison, the mayor of Chicago,
has a national reputation. His aggress-*
iveneas and tinquestionably strong mentality made him a conspicuous figure
rears ago. As a politician he naturally
baa accumulated a large list of enemies
as well as a host of friends. These differ
on many points as to Carter Harrison,
bnt they all agree that- he is one of the
moat hospitable men in the world.
Mayor Harrison's house indicates .by
its free, generous style of architecture
the chief characteristic of its owner. •- It
is located at the Junction of Ashland and
Jackson boulevards on the West Side* of
Chicago., On account of the widespread
reputation of the owner, who is now'
more than ever important by reason; of
being mayor during the World's*-fair,
Mr. Harrison's residence is an object of
great interest to visitors.

THE HOME OF CARTER HARRISON.
The grounds are spacious and natural
rather than artificial and trim, and the
house is old fashioned, roomy and comfortable. It is essentially a home place,
and of it the most casual observer would
predict an owner of refined tastes, luxurious instincts and great individuality.
And the casual observer wot$d"be quite,
right. Carter Harrison is all this apd
something more. A brilliant newspaper
correspondent baa said of him that he
had ft Reivtuckian's love for a horse, a
Virginian's ^dotation for beautiful
-women and a Chicagoan's love for himself- and it is doubtful if so much of a
man's biography was ever written in so
few words. His love of horses is'well
known in the Windy City, and during
the labor troubles of his previous term
in the city's executive office, when he
rode about continually from place to
place on a beautiful thoroughbred, *fthe
mayor and the mare" were household
words. .
The Grandest of Organs.
The great organ recently erected in
Festival hall at the World's fair has 8,901
pipes, 80 stops, 14 combination pistons,
18 couplers and many other mechanical
accessions, including a 82-foot diapason
and a grand crescendo for all the registers. The latter pedal is unique and
Tery effective. By a slight pressure of
the* toe of the boot the softest stop on the
organ is brought into use, then the'next
Idudest," and so 6n: till the' full harn&ni-
6'us flood has been released—tnbas,*trum-
jtetB, clarionB pea'ling forth, the diapason
tundering out, arjd the, yiple fury of
e elements seeming to' be let loose, in t\
magnilic.ent sto.rmi ' Thei\ ^y'^ pressure
gf the h^eV upon tlie pecjal ^ reverse effect is produced, and the storm gradually subsides as one after another of the
'.(Stops is put qu, dying away in the distance as the echo organ in the other end
of the hall takes up the refrain, and it
finally ceases altogether.

hospital or station and about 150 stretchers spattered about the various buildings,
all plainly marked. ' :
There are two residentphysicians at the
hospital, a corps of attending physicians,
especially selected for- .their experience
andiBtnesS, ahosjih^ steward^ druggists,
orderlies for stretcher work and a corps
of trained- nurses, with; as a'matter of
course,- all the-usual rooms, kitchens and
closets for hospitals. "So bhe is to be
kept long, bufcasj soon as possible after
their cases are attended to they are con-

ther or their friends direct.
Hay Barns.
Hay barns are becoming deservedly
popular. No buildings on' the farm so
quickly repay 'the money invested. ;A
good hay b&rn, holdipg^ ISO tons of hay,
can be erected for $100 to $125, and not
infrequently enotigh" is "saved by its use
in one year- to entirely* cover the cost.
American Agriculturist explains that
the saving occurs in three ways. First,
the time and -labor saved 'during the
harvest ''seasbn£toBaympthing:6f the advantage of putting every load under a
roof, and having no open stacks to be
caught by sudden showers. ' Second, the
elimination of the large rwaste on" top
and sides that" foliowB stacking. There
is practically no: waste whatever with
the hay barn. * Third,'the saving of labor
in feeding therhay.duriijg, the winter.
This last is a considerate item,' for it
often means ther board and wages of one
man during .the winter months. By putting'a plain, 'strong manger or rack
around the barn one man can do the
work of two working in the old way.

Agricultural News and Notes.
The London Times says: "If conditions do not change^ we will have- an
agricultural disaster in the United Kingdom. The condition of wheat is 88.8,
against 88.9 last year; acreage, 72.9,
against 85.1 last year. This means one
of the poorest crops England has grown
in half a century."
Grapegrowers in the Hudson river
region are using a bordeaux mixture
containing 6 pounds of copper, 4 of lime
and 45 gallons of water diluted to half
its strength—that is, with 45 gallons

Fruit Farms for Sale.
Two first-class fruit farms at a bargain. One li miles north of Lapeer
containing 50 acres, has 3000 bearing
peach trees, a big orchard of each
apples, plums and pears, also 2 acres
cherry trees all thrifty and nice.
The other a 38-acre farm with 1,200
peach trees loaded full of fruit, a .fine
lot of pear, apple and plum trees, also
a nice grarpe vineyard. Both farms are
of heavy rich soil nicely located and
well watered. The farms belong to my
sister whose health necessitates her
disposing of them. For particulars inquire of S. M. Bixby.
Ia Grippe.
During th« prevalence of the Grippe the

those who depended upon Dr. King's New
Discovery, not only had a speedy recovery,

effects of the malady. > This remedy seems
to have a peculiar power in effecting rapid
cures not only in cases of La Grippe, but in
all diseases of Throat, Chest and Lungs, and
has cured cases of Asthmn and Hay JPever
of long standing. Try it and be convinced.
It won't disappoint. Free Trial Bottles at

THE OBEA.T ORGAN.
The organ ' is very powerful, -being
built on a large and generous scale,; but
the use of pneumatic tubular'chests and
electricity renders it as easy to play as
the best of pianos. Tlie'. echo' organ.. is •
operated by 300 feet of electric cable.
Theextreme height of the exterior is 88'
feet, and the width and depth 34 feet and
25 feet respectively. There are five different pressures for the supply pf-vnnd
power, each of them supplied by a different electric motor. The case is built
of staff.
World's Fair Hospital Service.
For those injured or taken sick suddenly on the World's fair grounds a regular medical bureau hasbeen established,

There are-also two subhospitals. " The
main hospital has 2 wards for men., each
containing "10 beds; and 2 .wards for wom--
en, one of 10 beds and the other of 3.
The subhospitals have 3 and 4 beds' each
for men and the-same number for Women.
.While in ho sense an exhibit, the
methods employed are all of the best.
The ambulance-
service includes
