Ancient Printing.
Recent investigations ia Egypt prove
almost beyond question, that the "wonderful people of the Nile actually printed with movable types as early'as the
ninth century of our" era. Two papyri
of that time have been found, and
twenty-seven printings on paper of tbe
century following. Indications - point
to all the printing being done . by
priests, and the perfection of it indicates that it was then no new experiment witb. the clever craftsmen. It
Jia» also been learned that printed paper money was Issued in northern Syria
during the second crusade, and . as
early as 794 the government of the caliph of Bagdad owned and operated a
paper factory in the town named.—

There is trouble ahead for bicyclists
who ride on the sidewalks. The marshal will arrest any one caught riding
on sidewalks after this date—Milan

Chelsea is :o have a big time S-uur-
days that being her fourth annual day
of sports. The time will be spent in
horse trottinir, running races, foot
races etc. Sonm good purses are offered and it is expected to exc-sl any
previous sports.
A special dispatch from Jackson to
the Detroit Journal of Tuesday says
that a young Chelsea woman now visiting in ' he city, was arrested yesterday
morning charged with appearing in
the streets in male attire. There were
four in the p'rty, three girls and a
trawliiiir ram. The younglady in her
neat suit if clothes, was helping out
the stranger in entertaining the two
other girls. After a luncheon at one
of tbe restaurants tbey started for a
stroll, but the keen eye of Sergt. Tobin
detected the counterfeit and the girl
was takHri to police headquarter. She
paid a hue iu police court this mji'uing
and later told he- friends there was a
little to much excitement in masquerading to lead her to repeat the experiment.—Chelsea Standard
WHAT SHE NEGLECTED.
He Waa a Student of ZTuman "Nature, and
He Caught Her.
Albert Bloodgood gazed long and
saruestly into his young wife's eyes. It
was evident that serious doubts had
taken possession of bim. He had been
married to Sylvia Bloodgood for three
days aud had thought that he was happy, but now, as she sat beside him in
the saloon of tbe plunging steamer, a
horrible thought suddenly forced itself
npon him.
The sweet girl who had given her life
into his keeping noticed that something
was out of whack with him, and, looking np, more as an innocent child would
look at a parent than as a wife contemplating the features of her husband, s*he
asked:
"Doesn't 'oom love 'oor 'ittle darlie
any more? Tell me, darlingl what it is
that trembles you. Don't try to conceal
it from 'oor 'ittle lovey dovey. Yon
know I'm so wise I can see everything.
You told me so yesterday, when I guessed
what you had in that pretty jewel box
forme."
He sighed and said:.
"Ah, sweetness, I don't know whether
I onght to impart my thoughts to you
or not, Perhaps I am borrowing trouble.
Bnt I have, as you know, always been
gf a studious disposition. I have studied
men and women, and I have heen "wont
to think that I knew human nature."
"*?es," Ehe urged,- becoming interested; "go on."
"Well, either my observations and
deductions have been wrong or yon
don't love me as a wife should love her
husband."
"Oh, Albert," the sweet girl erled,
flinging her arms around^ Ijis neck and
sobbing pitifully, "\vbat has caused yon
to form this cruel, ernel opinion? What
has 'oor. 'ittle darlie done to arouse
sucl*j a suspicion?"
"It isn't what yon have done.," he replied, "but what yon have not done,
that worries me."
She drew back in wild fear and
waited for hiin to proceed.
"Yes," he went on, "it is what yon
have neglected tbat has caused these
doubts to take possession of me. Here
we've been married for three days, and
yon have not yet asked me to solemnly
declare that I never really loved until I
came to know yon." •
With a-guilty look she slunk away to
her stateroom, for she knew that she
had forever forfeited the right to claim
his confidence.—Cleveland "Leader.

The Fair Hookont of Capo Co£,
Miss "Gillian Small of Cape Cod,
Mass., bas a singular profession. She
lives in a small cottage under tbe
shadow of the big Higatland ligbt, and
bere she spends her time looking
through tbe telescope for passing ships
and telegiaphing to Boston. Shelearned
to do this when only a child, her father
occupying tbe post of signal master.
"When she returned from boarding
school wiiere she was sent in due
course of time, she became her father's assistant. She leads a lonely life,
often for days seeing no one but the
family of the lighthouse keepers. She
has a wheel and a rifle for companions,
and is said to find amusement in coasting and in shooting wild ducks and
such game as the country • affords.
Turning Lead Color.
Niles, Mich., has a citizen, who for
several years has been gradually turning to a lead color, puzzling local physicians considerably until last week,
when the mystery was cleared up. It
seems that he is an es-soldier, and
while in the army was shot, the ball
entering the liver, which organ has
gradually absorbed the lead and distributed it through the system, until
he is now the color of that metal. Doctors pronounce this to be one of the
strangest cases on record.
If you have ever seen a little child
in it paroxysm ol whooping cough, or
il yuu have been annoyed by a constant
tickling iu the i,hnoat, you can appreciate the value of One Minute Cough
Cure which giyes quick relief.
