Children Cry for
Speaking of the desirability of adopting standard time, a young lady remarked; "If all the clocks and timepieces of the city could be changed at
miduight some night, from local to
standard time no one would ever know
the difference. Then why do people
refuse to make the chaDge and so inconvenience themselves?"' he question was a poser. Surely no one is
inconvenienced by the present double
system except the denr people. It
makes no difference to the railroads
what time any town adopts or any one
else carries. They have their own
time and their trains go on that lime
and if you and I travel thereon, we go
on that time also. Wouldn't it be
better if we all carried the same time?
And if not why not? Will some person
give a reasonable reason.—Courier.
Electric Bitters.
Electric Bitters is a medicins suited for
any season, but perhaps more gsnerally
needed when the languid exhausted feeling
prevails, when the liver is torpid and sluggish and the need of a tonic and alterative
is felt. A prompt use of this medicine
has often averted long and perhaps fatal
bilious fevers. No medicine will act more
surely in counteracting and freeing the
system from the malarial poison. Headache, Indigestion, Constipation, Dizziness-
yield to Electric Bitters. 50c and S1.00
per bottle at Lister & Sheeders Drug Store.
Small precaations often prevent great
mischiefs. Dewitt's Little Early Risers
are very small pills in size but are
most effective in preventing the most
serious forms of liver and stomach
troubles. They cure constipation and
headache and aegulate the bowels.

Saluting a Cat.
There is at least one place in the
world -where the cat was until recently
held in high honor and received the attention due to one of so high a station
in life. That place is India, where in a
fortress the sentries inavriably used to
present arms to every cat that appeared
on the scene.
The custom is accounted for by this
singular anecdote, which comes from
what appears to be good authority:
Some 50 years ago it happened that a
very high English official died iu an
Indian fortress, at a place that is one of
the centers of Brahrnanic religion, and
at the moment when the news of his
death met the sepoy guard at the main
gate a black cat rnshed out of it.
The superstitions guard presented
arms to the cat as a salute to the dying
spirit of the powerful Englishman, and
the coincidence took a firm hold upon
the locality, that up to a few years agp
neither exhortation nor orders could
prevent a Hindoo gentry at that gate
from presenting arms to any cat that
passed out nt night.—Harper's Round
Table
A Scotch Child.
I have a small cousin, aged 8, who
has already contracted the very bad
habit of smoking whenever he gets a
chance.
The other evening, after he had been
put to bed, his father went up stairs to
the room where he was and began to
search the youngster's pockets.
The boy lay watching him for a few
minutes, then suddenly sat up and exclaimed:
"Oh, faither, I clean forgot! I bocht
a pennyworth of cigarettes the day for
a present tae ye."
And jnst then his father drew four
cigarettes out of one of the small pockets. Needless to say, he escaped that
