KEEPING A HUSBAND.
A Wife's Home-Making Ability TvTlll
Often Save the Married love.
"It has been said that the first year
of married life holds the responsibility
for the happiness or the misery of the
coming years, because it is the trial-
time of two whose tastes, habits, ideas
and peculiarities are brought to the
test of harmony," writes Mary R. Baldwin In the July Woman's Home Companion. "But no woman ought to
surrender her individuality even to
make peace in the family. And she
will not be obliged to do so if she has
love and tact and patience. Many a
husband has been led like a little child,
and has never known that he was bowing his will in the least, simply because his wife knew how to influence
him. And just here let it be said that
influencing in contradistinction from
governing is the word for that something which makes it possible for a
wife to become a comfort, power and
blessing to the husband. The woman
who can't influence her husband must
be lacking in essential qualities for a
good wife, or else she must deal with a
hopeless case. * * * Above all
things in a woman's purpose should
stand the desire to hold love from loss
and from spoiling Influences. We sometimes hear of two who have passed
years of married life without once exchanging an angry or even unpleasant
word. This may be possible for those
whose natures are such that reason
and emotion are very elastic; but it
could -not be said of the majority of
wedded people. An angry woman is
not the thing to be most dreaded, but
the. gradual growth of Indifference
that leads to atrophy of conjugal love.
There are ways of keeping a true husband In a lover-like spirit always, but
the wife must preserve those feelings
and their expression that marked those
charmed hours when she was__the
sweetheart. Loving thought for the
comfort and happiness of the lover
found expression naturally in words
and in acts. It must be the same to
the wife that would hold the husband's
aflection. Then those little words.that
are prompted by love and received in
Its spirit have a world of significance;
these should not be left behind after
the home life together is begun."

City Treasurer Hacheney is one of
these old-fashioned men who get up
first in the morning, build fires and
make some coffee for the refreshment
of himself and the others as they turn
out. Monday evening he laid the fire
In the kitehen stove as usual before
going to bed. Yesterday morning
when he opened the stove door to apply a match to the kindling he was
startled by a vicious snapping and the
sight of some hideous, sooty-looking
goblin, with huge eyes and ears, which,
caused him to jump half way across
the kitchen and imagine the devil or
one of his imps had taken possession
of the stove. On recovering his equanimity he made an investigation and
found that a gray owl had made its
way down the chimney, through the
stovepipe and draught, into the stove.
Mr. Hacheney could hardly believe his
sense and at first imagined that some
one had been playing a belated April
fool tricls: on him, but the disclaimers
of all the family and the fact that the
owl was liberally covered with soot
and ashes convinced him that the bird
had come down the chimney.—Portland Oregonian.

A Singular Fact.
Thousands of People have Dyspepsia
and Don't Know it.
Dyspepsia is the cause ot about nine-
tenths of airdiseases. yet]in most cases
the wrong thing is treated and.the true
cause overlooked, simply because dys-
pepsialproduces symptoms resembling
many otber diseases. A weak and diseased stomach causes heart trouble,
kidney disease, weak lungs, and nervous debility. The nervous system
cannot stand the wear and tear, unless
supported by well digested food.
Keep the stomach in good order with
Drake's Dyspepsia Cure andNeryeRe-
storer and neednot fear disease. The
reason why this remedy is unfailing in
the treatment ot all stomach and nerve
troubles is because it is designed lor
these peculiar troubles only, being a
combined method treatment. A great
mistake is made by persons thus affl i«-
ted in npg^ecting to trent'themselves
at this season of the year, thus the advantages of sunitner are neglected, believe themselves free, until the inclemency of winter deprives them of proper exersise, together with a change of
diet, when they ijnd themselves worse
than they were the preceding year.
Drake's Dyspepsia Cure and Nerve
Restorer is prepared in tablet form, is
pleasant to take, and is agreeable to
the most delicate stomach. Any one
suffering from Indigestion. Nervous
Dyspepsia, Sour Stomach, Headache,
Acidity, Gases, Belching, etc, will
find this treatment not only aquick
relief, but a radical cure.
