SALINE, WASHTENAW CO., MICH., THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1898. VOL. XVin.-NO. 47.
VERY CONVINCINC.
Makes
The Man with an Imagination
Good Use of It.
The man who settles the affairs of
the world off-hand had been discussing the jvar with Spain. His praiseworthy patriotism, which tolerated no
concessions, was fortified with great
eloquence and an imagination which
developed great power under stress
of emotion, says the Washington Star
"The idea of our having any. difficulty whatever is preposperous!" he exclaimed. "I can't quite agree with
you there," rejoined the man who, owing to the habit of thinking twice before he speaks, usually gets left out
of the conversation. ''Can't you,
though?" exclaimed the first speaker,
with a suddenness which made the
other jump. "Look at their methods.
They show what the result must he,
not only inevitably, but swiftly. Look
at the conference held between two Officials of the flotilla. "You mean 'listen to it," don't you?" asked the slow-
going one, who became very much embarrassed when the others tittered at
his remark. "I am no human phonograph, but I can put two and two together. History is history. There
is no going back on that," "To what
conference do you refer?" "It was
between two naval officers," said the
aggressive orator, half closing his
eyes, as if in supreme effort of memory. "After being sternly greeted by
his superior, one of them was addressed
in the following words: 'Senor,I should
like to know whether you think you
are traveling on a warship or hauling
freight on a canal boat.' The young
man looked at him with haughty indignation. 'Will you answer my ques^
tion?' insisted the other. 'It is not my
duty to reply to insults,' was his only
remark. "Then his superior got more
angry than ever and exclaimed: 'You'll
answer any questions I ask you; that
is, if you des're to continue to float in
this flotilla. I want to know without
any of this manana persiflage what
you mean by trying to carry a cargo of
diving bells into a fight' 'It was your
own suggestion,' the young man returned, biting his lips in helpless resentment. 'You repeated in my hearing the declaration that before our men
would surrender they would go to the
bottom of the sea, so I prepared for
the emergency and gave you, credit—
mistakenly, it appears—for having invented a brand new stroke of strategy,'
That, gentlemen," the imaginative man
concluded, "was the exact conversation,
and I leave you to draw your own inferences."

The report has been spread over the
state that the boys of the 31st Micb.
Vols, are willing to remain in the service and do garrison duty if they are
wanted. A private leiter from on of
the boys who went from Ann Arbor
assures the Register that this is not
true. The boys enlisted to help drive
the Spaniards out of Cuba. That'hits
practically been accomplished. They
now want lo return home and nobody
can blame them. The'writer asset ts

A Singular Fact.
Thousands of People have Dyspepsia
and Don't Know it.
Dyspepsia is the cause of about nine-
tenths of all.diseases. yetjin most cases
the wrong thing is treated aod'the true
cause overlooked, simply because dys-
pepsialproduces symptoms resembling
many other diseases. A weak add diseased stomach causes heart trouble,
kidney disease, tweak lungs, and nervous debility. The nervous system
cannot stand the wear and tear, unless
supported "by well digested food.
Keep the stomach in good order with
Drake^s Dyspepsia Cure and NerveBe-
storer and neednot fear disease. The
reason why this remedy is unfailing In
the treatment of "all stomach and nerve
troubles is because it is designed fpr
these peculiar troubles only, being a
combined method treatment. A great
mistake is made by persons thus afflicted in. neglecting to treat * themselves
at this season of the year, thus the advantages of summer are neglected, believe themselves free, until the inclemency of wiuter deprives them of proper exersise, together with a change of
diet, when they find themselves worse
than they were the preceding year.
Drake's Dyspepsia Cure and Nerve
Restorer is prepared in tablet form, is
pleasant to take, and is agreeable to
the most delicate, stomach. Any one
suffering from Indigestion. Sfervous
Dyspepsia, Soiir Stomach, Headache,
Acidity, Gases, Belching, etc, will
find this treatment not only a quick
relief, but a radic.al cure.

Discovered By a Women.^
An other great Discovery has been made,
and that too, by a lady in this -country.
"Disease fastened its clutches upon her
and for seven years she withstood its severest tests, but her vital organs were undermined and death seemed imminent.
For three montns she coughed incessantly
and could not sleep. She finally discovered
a way to recovery, by purchasing of us a
bottle of Dr. King's New Discovery for
Consumption, and was so much relieved on
taking first dose, that she slept all night;
and with two bottles, has been'absolutely
cured. Her name is Mis. Luther Lutz^
