Electrical Trees In India.
A Germany authority has recently
announced the discovery of a tree in
the forests of central India which has
most curious characteristics. The
leaves of tlie tree are of a highly sensi-?
tive nature and so full of electricity
that whoever touches one of them receives an electric shock. It bas a very
singular effect upon a magnetic needle
and will influence it at a distance of
even seventy-feet. The electrical
strength of the tree varies according
to the time of day, it being strongest
at midday and weakest at midnight.
In -wet weather its powers disappear
altogether. Bjrds never approach tbe
tree, nor have insects ever heen seen
upon it.

Con.agatlngr a Verb.
A United States consul recently returned here gives the following account of how English is taught in the
French schools. "Jean, you will stand
up," said the master to his hrightest
pupil upon the occasion of the consul's
visit. "Now conjugate the verb 'I
have a gold mine.'" "I have a gold
mine," responded the bright pupil,
with scarcely an accent, "Thou bas a
gold thine, he has a gold hisen, we
have a gold ourn,* you have a gold
yourn, they have a gold theirn."
Smoke on a Long Bound Trip.
During the volcanic eruption in the
Hawaiian islands last summer the
smoke rose to a height of between five
and six miles and then drifted away to
the northeast At a distance of 600-
miles from Hawaii it settled upon the
surface ^ of the sea and was then carried hack by the northeast "Wind to
its place of origin, where it arrived a
fortnight after its original departure
and covered the entire group of islands with its heavy pall.
A good many consumptives would he
cured and the worse cases comforted
and relieved by using Foley's Honey
and Tar. Suggest it to those afflicted.

Suffocated In A Well.
A. Harmon and Fritz LeBaron Rescued With Much Difficulty.
Great excitement prevailed here for
a little time Tuesday morning when it
was learned that Anson Harmon and
Fritz LeBaron were dying in the bottom of Harmon's well, and tbat to
rescue them was a difficult las k. Itr
seems that Mr. Harmon had discovered
that his well was wrong, and believing
gasoline was leaking into it from some
source, proceeded to investigate. He
opened the cover and went down, testing it first to ascertain if it vvas safe.
He reached tbe bottom safely and dipped up a pail of water which Henry
Tripp drew out, but before the pail
was lowered a second time, Harmon
had been overcome by damps, or gas,
and was unconscious. Fritz LeBaron
who was near by, was summoned and
told that Mr. Harmon was at the bottom of the well arid was having one of
the spells which he bas at times. Fritz
thoughtless of any difficulty in the
well, plunged to its bottom to rescue
Mr. Harmon. Fritz succeeded in
reaching and fastening to his unconscious patient a rope and that was all,
for by that time he too was overcome
and helpless. Harmon was pulled out
and Dr. Chandler who had been called
soon brought him. out of Ms helpless
state. LeBaron was at the bottom of
a well full of gas, was helpless and unconscious and to rescue him was no
small task as he had on only a thin
shirt and pants which could not be
hooked- into. After several minutes,
had been lost, Sam Josenhans, who
has quite a mind for schemes, procured
from the fire wagon a long pole with a
grappling hook at its end and with the
assistance of willing hands with muck
difficulty, the well being dark, the
book was fastened into the flesh of his
arm, and he was thus raised to the
platform, a lifeless human being, with
eyes set and flesh cold and rigid. Dr.
Chandler again with powerful restoratives, and harsh rubbing of the limbs,
arms and chest, by those present, he
after about twenty minutes, began to
show slight trace, of life, and finally
spoke. The ugly gash iu the arm did
not show any trace of bleeding for a
long time due to the fact that the entire circulation of tbe body was closed.
Mr. Barmon vvas up and around part of
tbe day Tuesday though not feeling
very well, but LeBaron did not get out
as easy, being sick at his stomach and
a bad headache for 3C hours.
After the two patients bad been taken
into the house Fred Henne lowered a
lantern into th". well and a surprising
accident followed. The gasoline gas
that was in the well had become mixed
with the air and ignited giving a fearful explosion. As the flames rolled out
of the well some eight or ten who
stood near had tbeir faces blistered,
and hair and whisKers burned off as
close as though they had bee'n shaved.
LucKily no one was seriously burned.
Merely Waiting-.
It was just after the dinner that preceded that box party. "She doesn't
seem to be much of a conversationalist," he sugested, referring to the
guest of the evening. "Oh, but she is,"
replied the girl wbo knew her. "She's
really brilliant." "But she said almost
nothing at dinner," he urged. "True,"
was the reply, "but just wait till we get
to the opera."—Chicago Post.

Chamberlain's Cough Remedy a Great
Favorite.
The soothing and healing properties
of this remedy, its pler-.sant taste and
prompt and permanent cures hnve
made it a great favorite with people
everywhere. It is especially prized by
mothers of small children for colds,
cough and whooping cough, as it always affords quick relief, and as it contains no opium or other harmful drug,
it may be given as confidently to a
baby as to an adult. For sale by

Beggarly Salary.
The young congressman ran his eyo
again over the pages of the speech he
expected to deliver on the morrow. He
made a trifling alteration or two, passed his hand across his brow, folded
his arms, and gazed hard at the typewritten pages before him. "And all I
get for this kind of work," he remiu-
ated, with a tinge of bitterness in his
tone, "is $5,000 a year."—Chicago Tribune.

Plymouth Binding Twine
A Comparative Statement showing the Cost and Value of Binding
Twine, based on the supposition that a farmer needs, to bind his grain,
S00 pounds of Plymouth Sisal, or Standard Twine, which runs 505 feet
to the pound. *
Three hundred pounds of Plymouth Standard or Sisal will give him
151,500 feet.
151,500 ft. of 505 ft. to the lb., weighs 300 lbs. @ 14c will cost $42.00
151,500 ft. of 480 ft. to the lb., weighs 315f lbs. @ 14c will cost $44.19,
151,500 ft. of 470 ft. to the lb., weighs 322J lbs. @ 14c willcost $45.13
151,500 ft. of 450 ft, to the lb., weighs 336t lbs. @ 14e will cost $47.13
151,500 ft. of 430 ft. to the lb., weighs 352J lbs. @ 14c will cost $49.33
We have recently tested twine sent us for examination, that averaged
a little less than 430 feet to the pound.
The PLYMOUTH Twines are the only ones of these grades that ran
505 feet to the pound. You save by buying them, over the lowest
grade,'.$7.33 on 300 pounds", or $2.44 per 100; or 2 44-100 cents per
pound. Therefore, if Plymouth sells for 14 cents per pound, the other
should sellfoi* 11 66-100 cents, to be as cheap, and others in proportion
The Moral is. buy PLYMOUTH Twine, and save money, and the
annpyance qf loose bundles, caused by poor twine.
