The best farm lands in the world lie west of the
Mississippi River. In that country are great opportunities
to establish homes and become prosperous. Reliable
information, beautiful pictures of farms, buildings and
stock, together with descriptions and letters from owners
giving their experience, can be had by sending 25 cents
In postage for^a year's subscription to America's great
illustrated monthly farm paper,
"THE CORN BELT," 209 Adams Street,
CHICAGO, ILL.
Justice Daniel Seyler of Lodi was in
the city yesterday. He reports business very quiet. He does not care to
issue any warrants.—Times. Justice-
Seyler will no doubt remain quiet until
July first when he will enter into the
duties of his new office, Justice.
The University hospital safe did not
prove safe, and last week one night,
burglars entered the building-, used
dynamite or powder and blew §210 out
toward the depot. The hospital
authorities would be happy to place
the hospital at their service for about
a week.—Adrian'Press.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Biddle gave a party
last Friday night in honor of their
daughter, Carrie, who was21 years old.
Progressive peduo was indulged in until 12 o'clock. Miss Addie Wilsey and
Oscar Schaffer winning high prizes,
Miss Bertha Hubs and A. Weurth getting "booby prize." Refreshments
were served and after a few games
were played, and wishing Carrie many
happy returns of the day all retired to
their respective homes.—Courier.
Henry Scovill had been three terms
mayor of Ypsilanti, and this spring
the people seemed to hanker for Hank
again, and the democrats therefore
named him, and be didn't do a thing
but carry every ward, and had 262
majority. He would be running yet,
same as the Ypsilanti mineral water,
only he stopped to hear Cap. Allen
shout that the democrats had redeemed the county and got the board of
supervisors 17 tol2. It is really 15 to
14, for W. D. Harriman is one of the
"elect" from Ann Arbor, .and he's so
afraid of silver that the sight of it
makes him fear he will be obliged yet
to walk with crutches, instead of a
cane.—Adrian Press.
Mason county supervisors now in
session are taking up the work laid
out for them by the state tax commissioners in a n^anpev tji-jt is gaysinij
great consternat.pp, atnong the tax
dodgers. Charles Blaine, a wealthy
money loaner, who ha§ resided variously at Ludington, Ann Arbor and New
York, is the first victim of the hoard's
vigilance, Blaine holds mortgages on
a large number of Mason county farms.
He really has no permanent residence,
and in the past assessors have been unable to reach him. In this manner
thousands of dollars have escaped taxation. The supervisors are very much
in earnest in their determination to
make Blaine and other mortgage holders toe the mark. A consultation was
held to-day with the tax commissioner
over the telephone, and it was decided
that Blaine should pay taxes in Washtenaw county, that being* his la_t declared rgsicjence,—rArgus.
Flooding the United States.
Ten thousands Japanese laborers are
said to have landed on United States
soil within the past 21 days. These
figures, while not official, were approved at the department of immigration. The treasury department has received word that 8s,3(|0. subjects of the
iniUaclo reached Popt Townsend,
Washington, Friday. Others are
bound for this country, and the limit
to the sudden and mysterious influx of
these foreigners is no-- yet in sight.
Representative Cusbman, of Washington to-day urged Secretary Taylor, in
behalf of the people of bis state, to use
every means to solve the puzzle and to
bring about an ea-ly deportation of the
foreigners. Mr. Cushman said that
the laboring people and business men
of his slate hi-h becoming ;ilaru)ed, and
that serious trouble is threatening- unless prompt Investigation and remedial
action ensue. The Japanese haye been
hurrying hither for two months,
particularly during the present month
of April.—Free Press.

Plymouth Binding Twine
A Comparative Statement showing the Cost and Value of Binding
Twine, based on the supposition that a farmer needs, to bind his grain,
300 pounds of Plymouth Sisal, or Standard Twine, which runs 505 feet
to the pound.
Three hundred pounds of Plymouth Standard or Sisal will give him
151,500 feet.
151,500 ft. of.505 ft. to the lb., weighs 300 lbs. @ 14c will cost $42.00
151,500 ft. of 480 ft. to the lb., weighs 315§ lbs. @ 14c will cost $44.19
151,500 ft. of 470 ft. to the lb., weighs 322£ lbs. @ 14c willcost $45.13
151,500 ft. of 450 ft. to the lb., weighs 336f lbs. @ 14c will cost$47.13
151,500 ft. of 430 ft. to the lb., weighs 352£ lbs. @ 14c will cost $49.33
We have recently tested twine sent us for examination, that averaged
a little less than 430 feet to the pound.
The PLYMOUTH Twines are the only ones of these grades that run
505 feet to the pound. You save by buying them, over the lowest
grade, $7.33 on 300 pounds, or $2.44 per 100; or 2 44-100 cents per
pound. Therefore, if Plymouth sells for 14 cents per pound, the other
should sell for 11 66-100 cents, to be as cheap, and others in proportion
The Moral is. buy PLYMOUTH Twine, and save money, and the
annoyance of loose bundles, caused by poor twine.
