A Unique Exhibit.
Valuable? Archaeological Specimens from Alaska at the
Exposition.
£ggli3t)\TOBv»*'a I***"-* al » Gentleman.
Sir L. Alma-Tadema's birthday occurred recently, and. it seems a good
opportunity to add another to the short
chapter of title stories which have appeared of late. A day or two after Sir
Lawrence Alma-Tadema had been to
Windsor to receive his knighthood an
"at home" was held at the painter's
house at St. John's* Wood. Most of
the; callers had something to say* appropriate to the occasion,, but one of
them, a well-meaning but not quite
•wide-awake old lady,, managed to' go.
astray. "Oh, dear Sir ta^ence,"' she
said, "I am awfully glad to hear of the
honor. y(**u have received. 1 suppose
that *qow you have heen knighted you
will give np painting and live like a
gentleman!"
Mr. P. D. Arnold, Arnold, la., writes:
He was troubled with kidney disease
about three years. Had to get up
several tithes during the night but
three bottles of Foley's Kidney Cure
effected a complete cure, he feels better tban he ever did and recommends
it to h's friends. tJnterkircher's drug

The Ethnology Building of the Pan-
American Exposition will be full of
fine ethnological and archaeological
specimens, and it will be a center of
interest for a great many visitors.
One of the most unique "exhibits in
the building is from Alaska. This exhibit is now installed. • It occupies the
place'which had been assigned for the
New York Slate Archaeological display.
While this Alaskan exhibit is not of
greater scientific value than smaller
material collected from New York
State, it will doubtless be of greater
interest to most of the visitors to the
Exposition on account of the distance
from which it comes and on account of
the fact that the archaeology of New
York State is very similar to that of
large portions of this country, while
the archaeology of Alaska is unique.
It will occupy a quadrant of the
ground floor in the Ethnology building.
The (southern quadrant of the - building is devoted to an exhibit from
Mexico, and the easteru quadrant to
the exhibits from the other Southern
Latin-American countries. Canada
and the United States are- represented
in the balcony. All of tbe wall cabi-
nets'and wall space of the balcony are
applied for, and most of the exhibits
are in the city. A few table cases in-
t-ndi-d for the exhibit of relic.-*, and
some fl.x-r space for the exhibit of
models and large stone or other tpc cial
exhibits requiring a considerable
amount of space, are still'available,
but will probably be taken up by eome
of the museums of the South and West
for exhibits of their valuable specimens.

Special of Blind CrMttuas.
Naturalists declare that there are 172
species of blind creatures known to
science, but many hundreds of species
of blind cave insects have been discovered -in recent years. They .are
mostly white, either from lack of the
stimulus of light or from bleaching of
the skin. Some species have small
eyes, and some have none. There are,
no doubt, many more species still to
be discovered, as nearly every description of fish found in the sea at great
depths, where the light cannot penetrate, is quite blind. To make up for
the lack of sight they are provided
with feelers most delicately constructed. Blind insects, as well as fish are,
