Are Your Eyes Bad?
Dr. M. F, Stein the famous Eye Specialist
¥
Will cure you. Many people become all but totally blind and at
an early age, simply because they pay no attention to their eyes. They notice
a dimness and soroness'after reading a while and when a miserable headache
comes to them they ascribe it to any cause but the right one and take a pill.
The real cause of their misery is that their eyes are weak and every time they
read or write means and added strain, and their eyes made weaker. Consultation with a specialist means the ending of all misery, and the saving of your
eyesight. Dr. Stoin is reliable, you do not see him once and then look, for him
agnin'in vain. He is going to make special visits to your town. Come and see
him and have your eyes scientifically tested free of charge, that you may have
comfort when you read and write. He Will be at the
Harmon House; Monday and

BETTER THAN EVER.
Those who have hot heard* the records the Cplunibia Phonograph Company is now supplying have no conception of the changes and improvements
that have recently been made. The
Graphophone, in the meantime, has
been correspondingly improved. Machines and records which were thought
to be almost perfect, a few years ago
are far out done in these times of unfaltering progress.

Bonn a Diverting Poet.
Old Homer is the very fountain-head
Of pure poetic enjoyment, of all that
Is spontaneous, simple, native, and
dignified in life. He takes us into the
ambrosial world of heroes, of human
vigor, of purity of grace. Homer is
the easiest, most artless, most diverting of all -poets; the fiftieth reading
rouses the spirit even more tfian the
first—Frederick Harrison.
Ann Arbor is threatened with a big
importation of yellow dogs, as several
students have signified their intention
of instituting a fad for this breed. It
wilt not be a contest to see who can
get the yellow dog with the best pedigree, but the rivalry will be to secure
the yellowest canine of the most divert
&ified breed. As long as the cur is
yellow, he will be allowed to pass
muster. The idea is to lie handsome
blue silk ribbons around the doss'
n'.-cks, and thus it will be distinguished
as a 'Varsity dog, and the whole bunch
will be taken* to Columbus, Ohio, and
be turned loose in that city. One well-
known student went to the pound in
Detroit last Saturday to get. a pick out
of the usual assortment, but arrived
just after about forty had been sent to
the hereafter. If the yellow dog craze
get a grip on the student fancy like the
top spinning mania, there will be a
sudden boom in prices on the hitherto
worthless commodity.—Times.
Women's Fatal Duel.
At the home of Ben Salyer on the
Licking river in Kentucky there was
a pistol duel between Mrs. Ben Salyer
and a woman named Bowen, who were
rivals in a love affair. Dr. Jasper Owens, who was calling on the Bowen
woman, was fatally shot. He thought
they -were jolting, but they began
shooting at one another, and "Mrs.
Bowen received a wound in her left
leg. Doctor Owen was shot through
the stomach. An attempt was made
to locate the bullet, which penetrated
the bowels. The Bowen woman was
taken to her home.

How to Bny Beef.
Among meats beef leads-off as the

higher in price, and are not seen on
the average table. Hotels and. restaurants have them always on hand, and
they really aye not so expensive in
such @ages, *where all the buying is
done qu a very large scale, thus redwing the price; of every pound. If
the housekeeper Of small average
means will adopt this; perfect plan of
purchasing her meats in fairly* large
quantities she will reduce her butcher's bill perceptibly and at th& ^ame
lime give her family better cuts and
more. *When there Is a.-family of four
to six people it is an advantage to buy
from ten to fifteen pounds of beef at
a time. If this is bought from -what is
known to the butcher as "the best part
of the small of the back" the house-,
keener will have the best cuts for .her
table at a very moderate cost—Mary

The Production of Baw Silk.
China still easily leads the world in
the production of raw silk, Europe
ranking next with about half the production of China, and Japan making*
a close third. In 1899 the exports from
China were 16,986,443 pounds, and

676 pounds; Austria-Hungary, 608,470
