Almost e\eiy customer who sees our line is an advertisement for us. She takes a cloak with her. But
we have twenty three jackets that need some advertising. Wo bought them last season, they are one

they are splendid fatting garments, the only thing
wrong about them is tbat they are a little shorter
than this year's garments.
They are nlarked from $6.50 to §10.00 each.

SCHOOL COLUMN"
Miss Maud Davis of Ypsilanti, was a
visitor at the high school Friday.
Rev. Lawrence visited chapel Monday.
Chapel has been made interesting
last week by the following extras:
Wednesday morning a very pretty
song by the second primary and a
piano duet by Amanda Sturm and
Luella Nissly; Friday morning the
first grammar loom san.**-, "Sweet
Summer's Gone Away.
The Junior social held at the home
ot Earl Lane Friday evening was a
decided success both socially and
financially. The poetry composing
afforded much amusement. The "prize
pie" was given to Miss Goldsmith,
her poem being considered the best.
"Our pie made of peach,
, -> is a sad fate for each;
It makes us feel funny
But we get the worth of our
money."
Ernest and Otto Kiebler have entered the Second Grammar Room.
Miss Manley for the last two weeks
has been giving some very interesting
talks on the social settlement work iu
Chicago. Thus the students are
taught some of the facts concerning
the life of the poor in large cities and
work among them, about which few
know.
The botany class is working on
starches and germination. Some excellent drawings of starch granules
found in potato, oat, buckwheat, wheat
and corn have been made.
Thankt^iVing Bay will soon be here.
The school will observe it by appropriate exercises Wednesday afternoon
preceding it.
Miss Crippen, we regret to_.leam, is
not gaiuing rapidly and it will ' no
!doubt be some time before her r.etyrp,.

About Trade Marks. -
Wheu Jenny liind was receiving her
remarkable American ovation, fifty

where she wfas entertained that an

aoggeveU's Announcement.
President Roosevelt will be a candidate in 1904. A definite announcement
to that effect was made by him to a
number of Representative republicans
from South Carolina last wee\$. These
gentlemen had co-fte, *.q the president
to urge. t\**g appointment of a prominent politician in that slate as collector of internal revenue. The president
had heard rumors to the effect that
the candidate was something of a high
roller. Mr. Roosevelt took occasion
to say:

be an honor it would be difficult for
any man to decline. But if I have to
pander to any elique, combinations, or
movements for their approval I would
not give a rap of my finger for it, or a

The 'act tl^at cy^r trade with Cuba is
actually f#lli,ng ofj is giving no little
conceirn to. thpfriends of the administration, and it is pointed out that while
ov*r business relations have decreased
by about one-third, those of Germany
have Increased nearly four fold. There
will, of course, be an attempt vaade to
make political capital omV of this but
as a matter of "a^i there are purely
COmDjeroial features that have con-

drummers are belter equipped than
tho Americans. They invariably
speak Spanish fluently and their experience in caring for- ihe German
trade in South AaaerJcan countries has
rendered thess thoroughly familiar
with the Cufcau and Spanish tastes and

wide experience in similar fields. This
gives them an advantage ovev American drummers that thoy are not slow
