Pew men could be taken from our
midst* who would be missed more than
he whose remains were carried to our
cemetery Sunday. Being- retired from
active business he was at liberty lo ^'o
in and out'as he pleased and spent
much of his time chatting- with his
friends and acquaintances wherever he
chanced to meet thpm, and his daitv
presence on our streets was generally
looked for. He knew everybody and
always had'a joke or a good story in
store when opportunity was present.
Edwin W. Wallace, son of Darnel D.
and Laura Wallace, was born at Livingston county, N. Y., November 6,
1830, and when about six months old
with his parents came' to Michigan and
Sbttled in the then -yilderness, about
two miles west of this village where
they erected an old time tavern and
feed stable where hundreds of teams
were fed. . Grown to manhood " Mr.
Wallace for a time engaged in a line
of agriculture untiL in 1S60 "when he
■commenced running what was known
as the Saline and Ypsilanti stage which
also carried mail and express. These
trips were made daily except Sundays
until in 1872 when he-became constable of Saline township with, which
.office-he worked up a large business in
the way of collections, later he- became
deputy sheriff and supervisor. In
1880 he won the election of sheriff and
was re-elected in 1882 and after four
years thus, faithfully spent he came
back to this place where he has since
lived. In 1887 he erected, the Wallace
block which will stand to his memory.
Mr. Wallace was one of a family of
four boys and two girls, *Ul of whom
preceeded him jn. 4e3:th excepting-
James of Miitqeaotti and Martin of
Manchester, the former heing unable,
to get here to attend the funeral. '*
Edwin W, Wallace arid .Rebecca
Fellows were married October 11, 1854
aud to the*pa were born three children,
Mrs. TJ. -D. Billmeyer and Fred Wallace of Chattanooga. Tennessee, and
little Ida who died at the age of 18,
months.
His illness was very brief, yet severe. He was taken Tuesday afternoon aud died early Friday morning
November 29-
- The obsequies were held at his
home Sunday afternoon and was strictly a masouic service. The day was
bright, warm and pleasant and lhe attendance very large. The floral offering were many and very beautiful.

made in the rough bark of the tree.
This sap, Qf a milky ivhltei^lss and

coagulates after continued exposure to
the air, hut becomes, after toiling"; a

Indians of Yucatan as- "ya," is the
tree that yields the milky sap. It is
found growing all over Yucatan. Under favorable .conditions the tree grows
to a height of. seventy feet or more.
The fruit much resembles a russet apple in color and general auliearaiice,
but has a flavor wholly its own.
