Braddock K. Sweeting, one of the
oldest citizens of Ypsilanti, died last
week Monday, aged 80 years.
The'31st Regiment of the Michigan
Volunteer Infantry are arranging for a
re-union to be held at Ypsilanti, May
17.
Wm. F. Lodholz of Ypsilanti, agro:
cer on the north side, died very suddenly last week Wednesday of heart
disease.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Galloway of
Raisin Center, celebrated the 67th anniversary of their marriage, last week
Wednesday.
The fine residence of Geo. Wacken-
hut of Chelsea, took fire last week
Tuesday night while the family, was
asleep but they managed to escape.
C. L..Yost of Ypsilanti, was taken
sick last Friday which prevented him
from acting as circuit courfjisror, the
other eleven went on with the case.
A new electric line is being projected from Adrian to Jackson. It will
take in Rome Center, Geneva, Addison, Somerset, Cement City aud Clark's

Henry T. LeFurge, the oldest hardware dealer of Ypsilanti, fell down the
elevator shaft at his store Saturday.
He was picked up unconscious, his recovery is doubtful.
Up near Onsted_the farmers are having all sorts of trouble to obtain help.
One man is said to have given a deed
to his farm in order to secure help for

Ezra Knapp of Blissfield, sailed'from
New York city, last week, as a delegate to the World's Sunday School
convention to be held at Jerusalem in
the Holy Land.—Tecumseh News.
A special train of 31 carload of cigarette tobacco passed through Adrian,
last week, consigned to a Chicago firm.
This big consignment consisted of 2,-
880,000 packs of "coffin tacks."—Ex.
Ray Baker, the IT. of M- student who
was arrested for clubbing Officer Jsbell
last fall, has been helped out by his
frgshmen engineer friends who raised
§150 and gave it to him to pay his fine.
Adrian had a baby show last week,
and 32 of the little darlings were on
exhibition. It is safe to state that the
mammas of the three who won prizes,
are sjire the judges displayed good

Miss Eva Palmer oi Milan, had a peculiar experience last week. In attempting to recite at school, she found
herself unable to speak audibly, being
stricken with aphonia. Her voice is
now recovered.
Cushing's drugstore on State street,
Ann Arbor, was burglarized last week
Tuesday, night and about §70 was
taken. A young student, who has been
laying around has been Suspected" by
tbe police and are Investigating the
matter to see if he knovys anything of

was discussed by the Pittsfield* Union
Grange at their meeting last week.

Master Homer Bell, a six. year old
boy of Reading, found his father's
house on fire, while he was there

While going to Lima last Friday
.with the remains^of, Mr!*, M. J« Easton
of Ann Arbor, Oliver Martin's hearse
tipped over due to the heavy drifts
from the day before. The casket was
uninjured but the hearse was damaged
quite badly. The accident was unavoidable as the drivex* took great precaution to prevent a tip over.
Mother Johnson Predicts Disaster.
"Mother Johnson," the well known
colored prophetess who has *'told fortunes" in Ann Arbor for more than a
score ef years, and who has set at rest
the mind of many a love-lorn maiden
in times of .trouble, predicts disaster ,at
the St. Louis Exposition next summer.
"Many people who go there for pleasure will never turn their faces homeward,-"' she says. "Whether the loss of
life will be through fire or ftqpd or by
some other means she does not say,
but sticks to the original- statement
that many wili lose their„lives.—Union

No Place For Him.
The other day a very old man with a
cane was seen making his way slowly
along Huron street. He was in the
road, but very few teams were out, A
young fellow with a delivery wagon
came dashing up the street, and as if
actuated by an impulse to do the old
man serious bodily injury, drove his
horse into the old man, felling him
heavily to the earth. After a few moments he arose, uttering a few inarticulate word3. The young fellow checked his horse aud cried back insolently,
"you blankety-blank fool, why don't
you take the sidewalk? But it was
easy enough to see that a lame old man
could not keep the walk when it was
one continuous glare of ice. Painfully
he hobbled dowu the street, but there
was something in his look that seemed
to say, '^There's no place in the world
