In discussing the matter of strikes
among the wage earners of the land an
exchange "calls attention to the fact
that a strike among farmers* never has
been known." Of course not. .The
cows have to be milked, and the weeds
have to be killed off, whether the
farmer is satisfied with what he gets
or not.—Standard.
It is pleasing to note that the Michigan Central railw.ay officials are hot
on tbe trail of their employes addicted
to the use of liquor and will" not let the
maddening stuff alone when on duty.
The officials have begun a rigid en-"*
forcement of the edict recently issued,
that they (the employes) will be discharged if they persist in the habit.
A number have already been laid off
at Michigan City and other points.1—

The present system of operating the
cars on the D., Y., A- A. & J. electric
line, falls far short of meeting the universal approval of the patrons, who desire to use the local cars. If a person
residing east or west of the- village,
wishes to come here, they have to wait
two hours between the trips of .local
runs. ■_. Many of the former patrons of
the litfe now drive their teams here,
rathesthan spend so much time wait
in^ftjr the so-called local runs.—Chelsea Standard; '- i ' -,
A (jangerous "J2 counterfeit*, bill is
bothering the officials of some of the
neighboring cities. It is a photographic Teproduction of the regular S3
bill, "but it is a little darker than the
genuine and has a smoky brown color,
owing prqbably to the use of acids. It
is also nearly twice as thick as the
genuine, but this deficiency Is not as
noticeable as would appear. The silk
.threads :rUnning through the paper
.are too qparse and conspicuous. The

LEFT SHOE WEARS FIRST.
Dealer Says It Is Because That Foot
Is the Larger.
'''Did you ever nc-tice that people are
■'gat-footed?" asked the ^proprietor of
a shoe store. "Watch my clerics and
vou will see that Invariably my cus-
i-imers will put up their right foot
when going to be fitted. Now watch
that woman going to sit down over
fhere." The woman took a seat, lifted her curtain of black veiling and as
the clerk approached her she poked
ner right foot from beneath an expanse Of skirt.
"It's always the case and 1 don't believe I ever knew it to fail. The'shoe
manufacturers evidently are wise to
this fact, as in the cartons the right
shoe is alwavs- packed on top. Once
I had a lot of ^hoe*p come to me with
the left shoe o& tc(p and it caused me
so much annojTinete that I wrote to the
manufacturer, balling his "attention to
the matter, so that it would not happen again. The majority of people
are right-handed, yet a left-handed person has the right-foot habit. The right
hand is larger than the left, as it is
used more, and consequently develops
the muscles to a greater extent. On
the other hand, the left foot is larger
than the right'in most persons. The
difference is-so slight that we seldom
have trouble 'in fitting shoes, however. It is the left shoe that wears out
before the right, and probably for this
reason."—Shoe Retailer. •
