rural routes.
Chelsea was given quite a scare by a
mad dog one day last week. . .

The Michigan. Telephone exchange
at Milan/is rated third in the state for
outside rentals.
Smallpox has become quite epidemic
at the Jackson county building, all of
the inmates have been exposed.
The clothing firm of Wadham, Ryan
& Reule of Ann Arbor, will hereafter
be known as Reule, Conlin & Fiegel,
the change having taken place February first.
The residence of Walter C. Mack, of
the firm of Mack & Go. Of Ann Arbor,
one of the finest in the city, was damaged by fire and water last. Thursday
Dight. Prompt; work saved it from being a total loss.
Deerneld's claim to distinction is set
forth as follows: Paved streets, electric lights, a §10,000 steel bridge, more
pianos than any other town of its size,
more good looking girls and 3S widows
and only 17 bachelors; all this with a

State Treasurer Glazier has begun
dividing the state funds among the
banks of Michigan and has offered the
Ann A.rbor banks a good big slice of
the moneys for deposit. Before receiving any deposits the banks are required to give surety bonds.—Chelsea

The articles of association of the
Moorish-Houston Co. of Ypsilanti,
have been filed with County Clerk
Harkins. The principal place at
which its operations are to be conducted is at the city of Ypsilanti. Tbe
capital stock of the corporation is the
sum of $10,000 divided into 100- shares
of $100 each.—Standard.
A handsome clock, valued at $S0, has
been presented to the school district
by W. W. Whiting, and been placed
in the new Carnegie library. It is a
beautiful piece Of work, and wili be a
decided ornament to Tecumseh's new
public building, and the donor is deserving of the thanks of the library
patrons for tbe gift.—rTecumseh News.
Two business changes have taken
place at Chelsea. L. T. Freeman has
purchased the "Bank Drug Store" of
Glazier & Stimsou and will hereafter
conduct it. The second change was
the sale of half interest in the grocery
-firm of Freeman Bros, to Chauncey
Freeman by" L. T. Freeman. There
will be no change in the firm name.—

after, the family cat suddenly claimed
the attenlionof the household by taking particularly active exercises about
the housifJ'gnd performing a series of
gyrations that wOuld do justice to a
Dervish dancer. Pussy had swallowed
one end of the pin, which was sticking
out of its neck, and it required the services of a pair of pincers and a man to
hold kitty to remove it.—Tecumseh'

Jackson, under the vigorous volicy
ot Mayor Todd, is fast stamping out
smallpox. ( The board of health refusing to get busy, and the mayor at
once fired them and named men who
took action. Patients are required to
report from quarantine daily for _six-
te'en days ere they are permitted to he
at liberty. A colored man failed to report, and the officials- found he was"
running at large. They jailed him,
and when the sixteen-days1 limit was
over, tried him in justice couiffc and
gave h'tu sixty days in the house of
correction. This determined action
has a wholesome effect, and the cases
are decreasing in number.—Adrian
