It is said that the Lake Shore people are soon to put on their road a new
ten drive wheel locomotive the wheels
to he fifty six inches in diameter.
It is stated that between Chelsea
and Dexter the farmers have contracted to raise 150 acres of sugar* beets
the coming season. This is more than
double their acreage of last year.
Manchester is again asking the
Lake Shore railroad to build a new
depot at that place. The depot they
now have is an old and shaky affair
and a new one would be an improvement to the place. '
Eugene Millen, the lessee of the canning factory, reports satisfactory progress in securing acreage so far. He
plans to keep the factory running
about ten months of the year with various products—YpsilantiaD.
The management of the course of
entertainments that have been given
here this winter finds itself about $80
in the hole, through the lack of sufficient patronage. An effort is being
made to sell enough single admission
tickets to the Kaffir boy choir entertainment to make up the deficiency.—
Chelsea Herald.
An eighteen months old child at
Ypsilanti narrowly escaped a severe
poisoning the first of the week by getting hold of a package of dye stuff
which had been thrown into the house
by an agent as a sample and was unnoticed by tho family until the child
had found it and was covered with its
poison green contents. Speedy treatment prevented serious trouble.
Visitors at Mack & Co'6 store Friday were greeted on entering by the
Irish flag draped across the front of
the embroidery counter. The department is in charge of Miss Tice, who is
the only person on the first flloor who
can claim allegiance to the green flag
and the harp. Early that morning,
the flag, which it was at first intended
to wave over the building, was finally-
hurriedly put in place by the clerks,
who then waited' with Mi\ Mack to
watch Miss Tice enter and note her
reception of the patriotic emblem
which graced her counter. She was
equal to the occasion, however, and after taking in the situation she smiled
a welcome and exclaimed "Hurrah for
the Irish." The little incident was
enjoyed by the entire force as well as
Mr. Mack who planned the graceful
tribute to Miss Tice's nationality.— A.
