The democrats of Adrian have again
nominated John Mawdsley for city
clerk.* This will make him twenty-one
years in that office. Not only do the
democrats nominate him, but the republicans endorse him as well.
A young man of Teeamseh, was
quite badly burned about the mouth
and face last week by filling his mouth
with gasoline and then blowing a
spray, then light it with a match. Tt
probably learned him a lesson that, he
ought not to forget very soon.
Ann Arbor capitalists are organiz-.

bank will be located at Liberty and
Main streets.—Standard.
Last Thursday some men were cutting ice on the upper pond and we asked one how thick it was. About 13
inches was the reply. On Saturday
night the ice began to move down
stream and fearing it might do some
damage, Lonier & Holler aud other
men worked several hours cutting the
large cakes as they came down, so they
would pass over the dam. The current under the ice near the edge of
the dam was so swift that stones as
large as a man's head were carried
over the dam.- Tho pond was half
clear of ice-Sunday morning.—Manchester Enterprise.
' We have located in Saline and are
ready to take contracts for furnishing
Cement Blocks for Residences, Cold
Storages, Barns, Silos, Water Tanks,
Wells, Cisterns, Etc. Our hollow-
wall construction has no equal because
they are absolutely frost proof, therefore save the lath and plaster'on inside walls.
Our machine forms a block or rather
two separate blocks spaced apart, tied
together aud reinforced by wires
which run" in a zigzag manner and
which ties the blocks lengthwise as
well as crosswise, our block' can also be
made in any shape or style. Cement
ia the cheapest for building and saves
one quarter the cost of other material.

"Women of the independent mind
will so educate their daughters that
these will not be instructed at the
start to think themselves naturally inferior to men "because less muscular,
and need not have recourse to particular arts, feline chiefly, to make their
way in the world.—George Meredith,
Domestic Economy.
Said Brown unto his wife one day:
"We've nothing left to eat; if things
go on in this queer way, we can't
make-both ends meet." His wife replied in. words discreet: "Oh, we'll
not be badly fed; you hustle and make
one end meat and I'll make the other
bread."
