EIGHBORHOOS NEWS
Happenings of Interest Gathcred'for the
-Benefit of Oar "Readers.
Ypsilanti is now planning to build a
hospital, feeling that such a place
within their limits will be both beneficial and profitable for the "city.
A well known clerk of this" village,
was out fishing last Sunday, and acci-
dently fell off a log into the water,
clear over his head. He crawled out
and building a bonfire dried hia clothes,
meanwhile keeping good watch that
no one saw him. He is still keeping it
a secret.—Tecumseh News.
Friday night after the senior swing-
out at Ann ArboF' the boys tried to
build a bonfire on the street car tracks.
A plate glass window was broken and
electric car windows were smashed.
Chief of Police Kelsey was pelted with
eggs and a wild time was had generally. One student was put in jail and
paid $48 next morning to settle the
fine and damages.—Enterprise.
Twelce-y ear-Old George Blair had a
narrow escape from death by electrocution Tuesday evening. He was playing and climbed to the top of an electric light pole, and grasped the two
wires with both hands. Those who
saw the accident say the resulting
blaze looked like the star on the trolley wire. He pulled his hands loose
and got to the ground, aud medical aid
was called. His hands were badly
burned, but he was able to be out at
play the next day.—Ypsilantian.
Samuel Post has decided that Ypsilanti has no use for the fair ground as
such any longer, and has given orders
that the old fence be taken down, and
the land surveyed and platted into city
lots. The fair ground for many years
was the scene of the best county fairs
ever given in Washtenaw county and
was long the place for all athletic
gports, but the |"*orrnal campus and
Prospect park has taken its place in
the allegiance of those fond of sport,
and the county fair seems to be dyiug
oat in this section of the state.—Ypsilantian.
The first mill jn Lenawee county vvas
built by Wing, Evans & Brown, in Tecumseh in 1S26. It is said that a rock
was found about a mile and a half from
the mill site, which was worked into a
mill stone, being capable of grinding
ten bushels oi grain per hour.—Adrian
Times. The mill was in Brownsville,
the first site of the present village of
Tecumseh, and is about a mile north of
Chicago street. The mill was burned
several years ago and the new electric
light power .house now stands on the.
site. The Old Red Mill at Adrian, was
the second "bjuil"^ in tlys equnty — Enterprise. '
