Called To Heaven.
The gaping public find a center of
daily interest in the parade of patients
from the Psychopathic ward, which
takes a compulsory constitutional each
morning between the hours of ten and
twelve*. Yesterday, the outing lay in
the direction of Cedar Bend park, and
when near tho river one woman suddenly heard a voice "calling her to
heaven," she said, as she ran to the
river and lay down in the middle of
the stream, Jerry O'Brien, who is
working at the {.-arK, rushed in after
her, and after a struggle in midstream, dragged her forth, wet but
uninjured, and the nurse did the rest.

Went To Sleep.
A man of Milan look it upon himself
to sit up with a sick friend. He prer
pared for the'ordeal by sleeping most
of the time during the day and at 8:30
in the evening presented himself at
the home of his friend. The family
soon retired. "John" lit his cigar
and settled himself comfortably and in
a few moments was in the arms of good
old Morpheu-5, uolil a call came from
the doorway: "John, breakfast is
ready; better some and have some. A
cup of coffee will do you good after the
long sleep you've bad.
Guild Hall Dedicated.
The Bant'isi Guild Hall of Ann Arbor, erected in memory of Mrs. A. Q.
Tuckbr of London, England, was formally dedicated last week. This hall is
for the use of Baptist students who
are attending the University. This
makes the fourth students guild hall
in the city, the Presbyterians, the
Catholics, and the Episcopalians having previously provided quarters.
The Methodists are raising a fund for
one and the Congregationalists are
considering the matter.
Quite Antique.
Mrs. Florence Golden has two little
girls and the girls have a doll that is
50 years old or more. The little girls
expect to celebrate the doll's fiftieth
anniversary soon; the exact date is not
material. The doll belonged to their
great grandmother Mi's. Freeto, and
was given to her daughter Mrs. J. H.
Sweet, thence it descended to Mrs.
Sweet's daughter Mrs. Golden,, and
then to her little, daughters.—Livingston Republican.
Rareties Mounted,
John Bross has mounted a while
swan for Dr. Rr B. Honey, The bird
was shot recently by a young man
named Stoffer, on the Huron rivet-
near Hudson, It is pure white, and
the species is very rare in this locality. Mr. Bross has also finished mounting five handsome deer heads, one for
L. C. Rodman, one for Herman Arm-
bruster of Ann Arbor, and three for
Stockbridge parties.—Dexter Leader.

H. D. Phelps of Dexter, recently celebrated his ninety-first birthday.
Henry D. Piatt, a prominent farmer
of Pittsfield township, died last week. "•
W. C. Reeves of Milan, has purchased the Hotel Stimpson of chat

Rev. P. M. McKay, of the Chelsea
Baptist church, has resigned to accept
a pastorate at Manistee.
The School Board of Jackson are
making plans for the erection of a new
central high sehool building.
The Ann Arbor Organ Co- are making plans to build a five story building
north of their organ factory for the
manufacture of pianos.
Miss Angie Mattis of Ann Arbor
has started a suit against the D, Y.,
A. A. & J. Ry. for "$5,000 damages received while alighting from the car.
Newton Lewis, the Pittsfield farmer
who was seriously injured by a pet bull
some six weeks ago, died at the Homoeopathic hospital at Ann Arbor last
week.
Patrick Desmond of Ann Arbor, an
employe of the Michigan Central road,
was struck and probably fatally injured by a fast freight train near tbe
Geddes gravel pit last week.
A iady of Ado Arbor went into tbe
court room tbe wife of one man and
carafi out the wife of another, the court
room, the clerk's office and a justice of
the peace are all located in the same
building.
Prof. Frank Scott of Ann Arbor, has
commenced suit against the University xlthletie Association for !§5,G00
damages for injuries received during
the falling of the bleachers at the
Wisconsin-Michigan football game last
fall.
A Dennis street man complained to
his wife that the "crazy" bone on his
arm pained'him. "Sharp or dull pain?"
interrogated the practical helpmate.
"Dull," was the reply. "You crook
your elbow down town too much," was
the instant reply. Since he swore off
the pain has disappeared.—Adrian

Prof. P. H. Pease has received the
announcements of the Cincinnati musical festival, which this year will be
honored with the presence of Edward
Elgar, the great English composer,
who will direct his new composition,
"The Apostles," an oratorio, which is
expected to be his masterpiece. Franz
Yan Dei- Stueken and his Cincinnati
orchestra, which Ypsilanti .-remembers
with pleasure, will succeed " Thomas
and the Chicago orchestra in the festival, "Elgars "Dream of Gerontius"
will also be given. Among the soloists
are Gadski, Witherspoon, Clark, Homer, Davies, and others well known
h ere.—Ypsilantian.
Old Apples.
William Lake of Munith, has some
apples—and pretty good apples, too—
of the crop of 1904. He has kept them
in crates in an outdoor cellar. The
apples are English russets, and though
they have shrunken to about one-half
their original size, they are still quite
sound and good. Mr. Lake has kept
apples over two seasons for -a number
of years.—Jackson Patriot.
