A New Kind of Medicine.
Fred Swan, a wealthy real estate
broker of New York city, and son of
J. B. Swan of Tecumseh, was married
last week in a "New York hospital to
Miss Helen Wood of Dorchester, Mass.
The wedding was performed with a
view of saving his life, he having received injuries that would not heal
and the doctors feared gangrene would
set in. The marriage would not prevent gangrene but the young man was
worrying over the matter and the doctors thought it would be in his favor if
the worry was stopped.
Proper Movement.
The -Ann Arbor Board of Public
Works are now determined to protect
the beauty and attractiveness of their
shade trees. This is a timely act and
one which will gain the gratitude cf
every good citizen. No cutting or
slashing of trees will he permitted
without authority of the Board. All
persons found violating will be punished to the full extent of the law. If a
city does not take steps to protect its
properly, they soon suffer.
Who Can Beat This?
One of the finast it not the "finest

from this station passed through Ypsilanti Saturday morning. It consisted of 40 head, 3-year-old steers, which
Mr. F. W. Horner had fed during the
summer. They averaged 1450 pounds
each and were shipped to Buffalo. If
anybody can beat this record let him
trot out his figures.—Ypsilantian.

For the
Children
To succeed these days you
must have plenty of grit, courage, strength. How is it with
the children ? Are they thin,
pale, delicate? Do not forget
Ayer's Sarsaparilla. You
know it makes the blood pure
and rich, and builds up the
general health in every iway\
The elii)3ren. cannot poscibly have good
health unless the bowels are In proper condl-
tion. A filugpish liver gives a coated tongue,
bad "breath, constipated bowels. Correct all
these by Kiving small laxative doses of Ayer'a
Pills. All veRCtable, sugar-coated.

Strength of Small Plants.
Strength is not-a thing usually connected with maidenhair, yet if V-- roots
have not sufficient room they will
break the pot in which the "hlant
grows. Blades of grass will force the
curbstones between which they may
spring up out of tneir place and in a
single night a crop of small mushrooms have lifted a large stone. Indeed, plants have been known to break
the hardest tocks. The Island of Alda-
hra, to the northwest of Madagascar,
is becoming smaller and smaller
through the action of the mangroves
that grow along the foot of the cliffs.
They, eat their way into the rock in all
directions, and into the gaps thus
formed the waves force their way. In
time they will probably reduce the
island to pieces.
Ten lears In Be^.
"For ten years I was confined to my
bed with disease of my kidneys," says
B. A. Gray, J. P., of Oakviile, Ind.
"It was so severe that I could not move
part of the time. I consulted the very
best medical skill available, but could
get no relief until Foley's Kidney Cure
was recommended to me. It has been
a Godsend to me.

-She Was Absent-Minded.
Near the subway in Park row, Manhattan, is a news and apple "woman.
She is yery absent-minded; also sympathetic". A ragged urchin ran up-to
her the other day and cried out in a
shrill voice:
''Say, Missus, your little boy has
just heen runned over by a big truck
in "Williams street!"
"Where! Where! For goodness sake
where!" shrieked the woman, rushing
wildly down Frankfort street with her
hair flying. Down the hill she hastened, and then she stopped suddenly.
"Pshaw!" she ejaculated, "what an
old lool- I be.- I -have no little boy.,
I-ve never been married."
But in the-meantime the street urchin had stolen four Ted apples and a
paper of popcorn.—Brooklyn Eagle.
