It Is A Puzzler.
The employees at the Electric Light
and Water Works plant are trying to
figure out why all of the large lumps
of coal dissolve so suddenly. When
the old shed that has been used by the
plant for storage was torn down to
make room for the new buildings the
Stove Co. is erecting, the authorities
had several carloads of coal piled iu a
pile on the railroad grounds. A few
days ago the superintendent of the
plant went to the storage grounds to
look over the fuel, and noticed a large
supply of lump coal. The next day
teams began to draw the fuel to the
plant, when it was discovered that the
supply consisted largely of slack.
Just what caused the large lumps of
coal to'slack is what is puzzling ti
men at tbe light plant. It is quii
evident that someone has been helping
themselves from the supply of coa
lhat Chelsea has on hand.—Standard
Herald.
Chauncey Clark, a pioneer of. Lyndon township, was leading a cow and
in some way the animal became frightened and twisted the rope around Mr.
Clark's feet. In a moment he was
jerked off the ground and pulled over
the frozen earth for about 100 feet.
His shoulder was broken in several
places.
Query-
If there were 900 guests at the Mio
iga-i Union banquet and each guest'
gets one-half a chicken, th*-n there '
will be 4-50 wishbones Wl after the-"
fi->ast if each chicken has the rej>u
tion amount of wishbone. There h.
been a lot of wishing done ahead of tht-
banquet and in case any remains to no
afterwards the bones will come handy.
With ail arrangements* progressing as
they are at present it is pretty safe to
say the committee won't need to make
450 wishes later, so the fateful bones
may be saved for next year's -commit-^
tee to wish that the '07 banquet ma
be as fine as that of ^Oo.—Argus.

An Aged Hostess.
It is rather unusual for a woman of
over .eighty years to assume the responsibility of a Thanksgiving dinneir
for 30 guests yet this was undertaken
and successfully accomplished by Mis.
Mary A. Vincent . of Union street.
Though several were unable to be
present, a merry company ofi nineteen
composed of ber children, grandch
dren and other immediate relativi
were seated at her table and partoo
of a bountiful repast. £t was thi
earnest wish" of all present that sh
may live lo see many more Thanksgiving days.—Tecumseh Herald.
