A Ciever Invention.
A patent bas been granted to Joseph
Crist, a former resident of Ypsilanti
but now in the employ, of the Wayne'
Automobile Co, in Detroit. His invention is n new device of mechanical
movement by which the speed of an
automobile or any other mechanism
can be controlled and- changed by a
single lever, at the will of the operator. At present there are several
speed gears on an automobile which
change with a jerk and are not under
instant steady control. This device
of Mr. Crist's is simple, inexpensive,
made of steel and ean be attached to
any machine. Several firms in New
York have sent offers to the inventor
to purchase the patent bat he proposes to retain an interest in it.
An Old Apple Tree.
Uncle David Woodarci of Clinton,
has in his orchard an" apple tree that
for 65 years has withstood the storms
of winter and the drouths of summer,
and which is yet a prolific bearer.
His son, who is also a fruit man of
considerable ability, says he sees~*no
reason why apple trees with proper
care should not bear fruit for a century, or even longer. The aged tree
mentioned above is the Tallman Sweet
variety.—Adrian Press.
