Success In Life....
A recent number of the^Michigan
Gazette, the official organ of the
Michigan State Telephone Company,
contained a]ffine^ half Jtone picture of
Casper E. Yost,'president of the* company's operating phones "in Nebraska,
Iowa and in several of the western
states, and a descriptive article crediting Mr. Yost to Washtenaw county
and telling of the remarkable advancement in .this chosen field of endeavor. The picture shows Mr. -Yost
a man of mature years and manifestly
one who has been "reasonably prosperous in his undertakings, but it smashes
idols. As a young man "Gap" Yost,
as everyone knew him in Ypsilanti-
and about the county forty or moVe
years ago, was a dashing, genial and
populai young fellow, while the pier
ture shows with .matured expression,
white whiskered and white haired, the
latter with a parting of extreme "width
in the middle. Thirty.-flve years ago,
the winter saw "Cap" in Omaha when
he was U. S. marshal. Later he became postmaster of that city and all
along the line there has been continual advancement juntil now when yet
in the full prime of life, he reflects in
his picture the effects of his sturdy enterprise and the vigorous character of
his accomplishments.—Times. t
Bellevue and when that link is completed the line, between' Detroit and
Chicago will bej'shortened about- 45
miles. This- means that the Grand
Trunk will make a.bid for the passenger traffic between- the east and west
and it may stir the New York Central
lines to hurry up and get the Ypsilanii
branch in shape so through trains can
be run-on it between Detroit and Chicago, which will "be the shortest route
of-any.—Manchester Enterprise.
What Do They Gain?
It "was reported that -on account *of
the Clinton .merchants adapting the
cash system January first that;a large'
number of people.,, farmers and citizens had agreed to send to Chicago for
their goods'. That's a good way (?) to
malce a town prosperous.—Manchester
Enterprise. Ye's,*and it's'Jan awfully
good way to KILL a town. It is often
said lhat people cut off.their noses to
spite, and what do "they gain? Can
they get credit in Chicago?
Why Permit Violations.
Two young men came up from Lenawee eounty yesterday to liunt rabbits
in Bridgewater, but before leaying
home they wrote the state game warden asking if they could hunt in Washtenaw with ferrets.and received a letter saying that they could. They bagged a goodly nunj^er and were at the
station waiting fop the train via Manchester when the deputy game warden
appeared and placed them under arrest. Ho paid their fare to Manches-
ter^and took them before Justice Hag-
aman when jone of the men, thinking;
the joke 'had gone far enough, produced the leuer from tbe stsii« game
warden and'of course the deputy had
io call the case off Tile hoys" thanked
the deputy Ior payii.g their fares to
Manchester and offered' io give him »
rabbit fdr h pot pie und 10 (real to the
cigars. '
It appears that "Some Ann Arbor
men were/in Freedom yesterday hunting rabbits with ferret and someone
reported them to the deputy game
warden and he made u. mistake in, the
parties. Well, he can get revenge bv
getting after tne other fellows. But
maybe they also haVe a permit from,
the state game warden.—Enterprise.,
First Snake Story.

• Fences The Best Because
' 1. "Stays are Electrically Welded to the strands forming a perfect unioii
and an amalgamation with the strands not found in any other fence.
2. All stay wires are made as heavy as intermediate line wires. ...A
fence, like a chain," is only as strong as the lightest material in it. Think
this over carefully.
3. "No wraps to get loose, to hold moisture and cause rust.
4. No projections to injure stoek or tear wool fi'om shfeep. ■
5. Stronger at the joints than any other fence. Welded together with
electricity.
6. Guaranteed that the wire is not injured at the joints.
Guaranteed adjustable to uneven ground.
Guaranteed that stays will not separate from joints.
Guaranteed all right in every particular.
Made by the most modern process and on the latest improyed machinery. .-
11. Most of the weak points in other fences are on account of the way
the stays are fastened,
Our stays are amalgamatdd with the strands by means of electricity and
the strength of the fence increased a hundredfold over the strength-ol a
fence where the stays are wrapped or clamped on the strands.
You'may pay more money for other fences but you cannot-get as good; a
fence as "Pittsburgh Perfect."
