to fi idily' "evening wv$, submitted lo
the Association and by'* a two-thirds
vote of its membors the change--was
made. In-previous years the .annual
meeting has sometimes been unavoidably carried over from a month to- six
weeks past the regular time_ awing, to
various causes—the inclemency of the
weather usually in January; or the
revival meetings which often have

come just at the time of the' rggniftr,

when the "days* lengthen" and'' the
cold begins to "strengthen." Then,
too^the'sidewalk's were agt- to be icy
and slippery, making it. more difficult
for the the older members to get out.
So we may congratulate ourselves that
this'change in our constitution will
:enable us to hold these annual -meetings'under more favorable.conditions.

is'yefy-desirable, that each mem.er of
this Association shall-secure at least
one new member each year. It worked well last year—so let us try thfa
""tlmi ;i_-iiiii ihis comin_r" year, thus"
doubling our membership and t-xlen'd-
ing the benefits which we enjoy to
others. There are so many newcomers in Saline "that it is quite possible some of them do not know about
the low membership fee of 50c yearly,-:
and perhaps some'are only waiting ior
an invitation to become valued and
helpful members. Let us see to it that
each new-coiner in town is. made acquainted with this Library and its
ust?s and-that the. older residents -are
again reminded that Saline has a Library.
, We have been especially fortunate
this year in bur friends. They have
given us both booiis and money, also
kind words and .helpful .assistance.
We wish to thank ail those who have
contributed in "any way to the success'
o£ the year's work. We have received
.ninety-nine volumes this year as gifts.
Mrs, Rosse ha. ju3t donated sixty four
bound volumes of Littell's Living Age,
besides fourteen other volumes, mostly,
fiction. We received from Miss Cornelia Smith's .library, sixteen volumes.
We have received one book each from
the following; Miss Brown,-Miss Zoa
Nichols, Miss Donaldson, Miss Friis
and J.-J. Walters. The copies of the
Living Age are especially valuable
both for reference and for good solid
reading."' They als,o contain many interesting sjqr.es. Tjjere have also
been adled to our shelves the usual
number -of bopks.by purchase, making
the total number of volumes in our
library" this year 1299. We
have received-five dollars in money,
two beautiful'pictures, .a fine map of
the TJnited States and too many klnd--

been limited to one—the pretty Operetta "Red Riding Hood"-given under
the:direction of Mrs. Speck of Ann

over $47 and. * was a great success.
