RESOLUTl
The first of the year is the time for making
good resolutions.
Make a resolution—and stick to it—that on
January 1, 1910, you "will open a savings account in the Saline Savings Bank, and add
something to it each and every Monday morning.. That home,--the boy's education,---that
business venture—"all things become possible
to him who has a bank account."
Then—We Resolve: To take this oppor-
' tunity to thank our customers and friends- for
their patronage and support during the past
year, and -to wish you a most Happy and
Prosperous New Year.

about the smoking room looked- up at

"Why, there's Jimmie!" was,J; the
cry. "Hello, Jimmie!"
""Where've you been?" '
"First time you've dropped in this
fall!"
" ' TJllo," said Jimmie. He'said it in
a particularly standoffish way, too.'but
the exuberance of the-good feelings
among his friends prevented; the,fact
from being noticed. He.-stood there,
surveying' them rather scornfully.
"Why don't you sit down?" asked
the bravest of the group. "Here's. a
chair that's not working. Or have
William bring* ypu on a whole couch.
Or ask to have a billiard table pu'shed-

anything, Jimmie, so you're suited;"" "
"Huh!" said the o*bject of .these
pleasantries. "Don't know .tbat._.r_a
going to stay!" ,* ■■_ .
'.'Then why come?'' went on the.
bravest. "Tou don't lool- happy, now
that I observe you more closely. You
don't seem pleased' to death .to be
where you are. What's the trouble?"
"Oh, nothing," said Jimmie. He sat
down grudgingly and stared at the
fire. The group surveyed him with
interest.
iny feelings? Who really cares how
anybody feels?"
The group eyed Jimmie with much
curiosity. Something certainly was
wrong with him.
"Look here;" said ;the bravest man.
"Why don't you. go and call on some
girl and.cheer-up? Go get some of the
nice ones to do a rarebit for you in
the chafing dish and—"
Jimmie sprung to.his feet. "Girls!"
he exploded. "Why should a man of
sense waste time on girls? Chattering creatures, with imitation brains
and cast-iron hearts and no appreciation of devotion when they see it!
Giggling flirts! That's what they are!
they—"
"Hold, on, Jimmie," said the daring
one, who had an inspiration. "Any
girl you're" specially fond of gone and
got engaged to another man?"
Jimmie glared down'at him with
iragedy in his .mien, but there "was' a
yearning for sympathy in his -eye.
"Since you are so disgustingly curious," he growled, as he made for the
door, "she did!"
" The group sat in silence after Jim-
mie's tumultuous exit. Finally theh
the 'oldest man spoke up. "How fortunate," he said, rell'evedly, "that it is
only his heart! I was dead certain it
was his liver!" . '"

"Been to the theater lately, Jimmie?" inquired the -young- mah to
whom the stage is the panacea, for
all woes. "There's a'cracking good—"
"No," interrupted Jimmie shortly.
He yawned. "I've cut out the theater. If it isn't foolish it's stupid.
Nothing in jt."
-"Anybody bepn around to see Arthur lately?" hastily asked the, pacifier to the group who believed in'.a
change of subject, "He—" ..

"that I went around to see Arthur he
