The Ball Game.
Saturday afternoon the time and Ypsilanti was the place that our High
School baseball team decided on to
seek revenge for the beating that the
Normal High team handed to. them
several weeks ago. Our team got
what they were after—Revenge—but
not till after twelve. innings of fierce
struggling and uphill fighting. The
game was apparently lost to our boys
at the end of the first inning, the opponents scoring four runs due to * errors made by 'our team. However,
after this inning the Saline boys took
a brace and not only did they hold the
opposition safely but managed to pick
up a run here and there till at ,the end
of the eighth they had tied the lead
run up by the Normals. In their half
of the ninth the boys representing our
school went out to win and immediately scored a run, Ypsilanti, however, not to be outdone tied "this. in
their half and the game went into extra innings, each team pulling their
pitcher out of holes by good,-fielding.
In the twelfth Saline remembered *that
they had to catch a car for home 'and
not wishing to'leave the game a draw,
quickly chased two runs across .the
plate, while Ypsilanti went down to
one, two three order in their half -,' thus
ending a very exciting game.
Stoddard was hit in the .face, by a
batted ball in practice and could not
play, Guthard' going from center'-to
second, while Gross occupied second.
Both played well in these positions.
The Saline boys hit well, while* Ypsilanti could' not hit Boettger ye ry.hard.
The S. H. S. will play Manchester
H. S. at Manchester, Friday, May 27.
