Base Ball Association Formed Friday
Evening--Grounds to be Fitted for Games.
A number of fans attended a meeting
at Howard Bartlett's office Friday evening and organized an association to
keep Saline on the map in a base ball
way for two years, at least.
The following officers were elected:
President—Howard Bartlett.
Viee President—Lawrence Sanford.
Secretary-Treasurer—W. L. Walling
A committee was appointed to arrange for a lease of the grounds opposite the cemetery for a period of two
years, and as soon as the weather is
favorable the field will be put in first
class shape.
Howard Bartlett was chosen as
manager for the team, and Bert Giilen
will act as captain. Every one who
likes the game well enough to try to
play it is eligible to try out for positions on the nine. Of course all can't
be placed* for naturally some are better than others and must be given the
preference, but there should be
enough so eager to play as to provide
for substitutes whenever needed.
Base ball is going tx> be a live proposition in Saline this ye^r, and many
good times are in store for lovers of
the pastime. The Masons intend to
have a strong team, the high school
will have a nine, and with the one
just organized to represent the burg
at home and abroad there should be
enough going on to please the most
ardent fan.
Messrs. Walling, Sanford, Skinner,
Fairbank and Reeves were appointed
to solicit funds to get things going right, and as we go to press sufficient is in sight to warrant the prediction that the association's fondest
hopes are going to be realized.

Village Assured of Excellent Water for
the New Municipal System.
* The well drilling outfit, which has
been tried at three locations this
spring, struck "gold" on Saturday
near the creek on the Chris. Schleh
place, on the north edge of town, at a
depth of 118 feet.
On Monday the sand was cleaned
out and a flowing well of the best
water imaginable is the result. The
stream is a steady one and the force
is strong enough to force a six-inch
volume three or four feet above the
level of the ground.
That the councilmen are jubilant
goes without saying. They have been
cussed in and. out of season because
nature did not see fit to deposit a
goodly supply of water at all points of
the compass. Two dry holes dug into
the exchequer quite heavily and if the
third had proven equally fruitless
there's no telling what would have
become of our village dads; those who
didn't commit suicide would no doubt
have eloped to escape the advice of
the rest of the populace.
It is all over now, and operations on
the system which is to provide the
village with its greatest blessing will
proceed with proper hustle, and by
fall Saline will be able to rank with
the most progressive towns of the
state.
