, Every, -set of farm buildings and
location presents a different problem
but there tire certain- principles that
should be observed in, planting .the
lawn and the shrubbery. Trees" and-,
shrubbery should.be grouped so'-that
chey 'will bring into view desirable
abjects-alid obstruct views of undesirable objects. Aim to have., a good

Plan to have the evergreens grouped
:o that they will afford wind-breaks

md afford protection, for the small
fruit. Few farmers realize the "influ--
3nee of wind-breaks in modifying the
"emperature of either cattle yards and
"ee.d lots. There are few more convincing-, arguments in. favor of planting windbreaks than to observe the
munches of little calves and pigs hud-
aied on -the sunny side of a windbreak during the sunny days of early
spring and fall.

Reduce Leaching.
/There are thousands of acres of ber-
nftida and carpet grass sod that ougbt
tolbe sacrificed with a.disk or section
el harrof and sown in hairy vetch
crimson clover seed this fall? The
vetch .will reduce the leaching out of
plant food to the minimum and at the
fhe same time transfer nitrogen from
the air to the soil to be used by the
carpet and bermuda grass. The vetch
or clover will di<? down in the spring
by the time the hermuda or carpet
grass gets a good start.
