may learn that he makes a mistake by
buying goods without a careful .examination, of them. When this is the
case-and it frequently is-the purchaser -becomes a. better, patron of
home institutions than ever before;
'But there are a few things thai the
average man and woman overlook. It
is the dollars that they send away
mean* money taken out of local circu--
lation and thc- subsequent impoverishing of the community to that extent. - Say that there are 5,000 people
in the community. - Five dollars ^
year from each one sent away amounts
to $25,000 'a year "and. in .ten years
¥250,000. _,
Suppose that a fifth or sixth of this
represented the profits that should be '
left iu the'community. It would be;
quite enough to establish a "business •
enterprise that would support several i
families. But for some communities .
the average amounts sent away, for j
goods are a third to a half and often ,
more.'than tho total paid for needed '■
supplies. Think of what a great loss

The. race in the indoor base ball \
league \gaxes warm. The Hounds !
and Champions played their second
game Thursday evening, the latter
winning by a score of 17 to 7. The
Hounds. were minus their regular
datcher, Grover Giilen, Walling goin
in and doing the best he could, which
.wasn't at all bad. Catching third
-strikes seems to be about the hardest
thing to do ia the indoor game.
- Roy Rogers, one of the Hounds, has
been on the crippled list since-their
las'-'game. Some one slid into third,
which he was guarding, and slid into
the big toe on his left loot at the same
"time", and as a result he's been wear-.
ing acarpet slipper on that foot,
' The-All Stars took" a fall qut of the
Hounds Monday evening, and instead
of a large circle, now have one point to
their,star. - They'll haye more when
they get'under a. full head-of steam,
for on paper it looks as .though Ihey
hav'e'the Cream of the niore than foily
who are indulging in this popular
pasttime. t The Hounds went into the f |
*game.Monday evening badly crippled
t by the'absence of several of their best
" poinfcgetters or the contest might have
-been closer. The final score favored
