Presbyterian ladies Gave An Informal
*
Social Fete for Mrs. Rock- j
-' ' . well at Her Home. j
Among the many social events of
the season, non,e have been more cor-■•■
dial and significant than the gathering of the ladies of the Presbyterian
church aV the home of Mrs. O. M.
Kockwell ou Tuesday. It was a spontaneous expression of the high esteem .
in which Mrs. Rockwell is held by her
many friends in the cinircli and community, '
The ladies met at 11 o'clock and
after lunch, which was bountiful and
varied enough to suit the most fastidious appetite, an informs! 1 program,
well arranged and befiCtiii^ the occasion, was carried.into execution.
Miss Edna Smith presided at the
piano and rendered one of her pleas-'
ing musical numbers, "To Spring," .
by Grieg. The ladies were fortunate
in naving present Mrs. Harry Parsons ,
of Baltimore, who in her usual charming manner gave a reading with a true
touch of humanity, vLet me live in a
house by the side'ni the road, a friend
to every man." Mrs. S. R, Wilson
gave one of her characteristic sketches
of life, in a style and manner wholly
her own. |
As an appreciation of Mrs. Rock- J
well's" efficient services as president of.
the Ladies' Aid society and her hearty j
co-operation in all church work, 'Miss *
Lucy Cobb in a very unique, appropriate and rather humorous speech in
behalf oi the ladies', presented her a
handsome rug. Plymouth being so
near, Miss Cobb dwelt not so much
upon the sadness of separation as'upon
the hope that. the hostess might still
wend her way to Saline and be among ;
their happy number at many a Ladies'!
Aid. : |
It is needless to say that with these j
many incidents, the animated con-J
versations, the wit and humor, and.
cordial repartees, the afternoon soon
passed and the guests with friendly
good cheer for Mr3. Rockwell in her
new home at Plymouth went to their
several homes to treasure in their'
memories this happy event. '
