What three Cents Did.
A little boy, about, six years old,
rushed into a store and asked if they
kept those stamps that had the picture
of Santa Claus on. The clerk said
"Yes," my boy, we do; how many would
you like to have?" The little boy
looked earnestly into the clerk's face
and asked: "How much are they?"
The clerk.answered that they were only
a cent apiece. The boy looked -joyfully
around and said, "I heard my mother
talking • about how the money was to
help "the poor; sick people that had consumption. • I've only got 'three cents,
but I wanted to^ help them by buying
stamps."
He received his threeJRed Cross Seals
and.left the store, -proud to think he
had perhaps helped some boy's father
who had that terrible disease.
Judge Q'lVIealey Dies.
Adrian, Dec. 6.— There is no little
speculation here ag to the possible
successor to Judge J. L. ,0'Mealey, of
the Lenawee circuitcourt, whose death
occurred today.
Prominent among the local democrat lawyers.in line for appointment by
Gov. Ferris are, Herbert JR. Clark of
this city and Bert D. Chandler of Hudson. The latter was prominent at the'
time of the primaries preceding the
last national election as a candidate
for nomination to congress, opposing
Samuel W. Beakes. JTred B. Wood of
Tecumseh is another possibility. A
special meeting Of the Lenawee County
Bar will be held Monday morning to
take action upon the death of Mr.
O'Mealey.

members, and for the school .children
we are buying as fast as able the books
they wish, We wish, here, to thank
all those who have given books the
past year. -
The Board has most successfully
given the "Temple of Fame," and
wish to take this opportunity of thanking those who took part, and Mrs.
Hall for her liberality.. The money
thus Secured has enabled us to put
new paper on. the library walls, get
new curtains for the shelves, paint the
front of the building, repair screen
doors and windows, and.in every way
put the building in good condition.
We have devoted several days -of hard
work to'cleaning the room. Our Librarian has taken down and dusted
each of the 1,652 books.
The Library has been opened every
Friday this past year by some member
of the Board.
Again, as in the past, we wish to
emphasize the fact that we are glad at
anytime to exchange books or assist
in looking up any subject desired.
We wquld be glad to" broaden the
usefulness of the Library- by having
the room opened ofti*.nt*r, using it-as a
rending rooiti, increasing the number
of new books per quarter, etc.", but
our "ability to do so rests with the public Two. cents a weefc^for the best
books there are.* Surely every home
should be represented in. our membership. ' .
We are thankful to say that for the
second time in the existence at this*
asspciation a year has passed and no
member has been taken by death.
Again thanking all who have in any
way assisted us in this past year, this
report is respectfully submitted.
