end. These rebound checks are inverted bow shaped st^el leaves assembled under high {pressure against
the top of the spring leaf, the ends-
pressing against the top leaf, increasing the resistance.
So much, has the spring friction
been increased by this new device
that the «ar is said to ride 50 per
cent batter than with old type
springs. The rebound checks also offer greater resistance to bumps.
Greater ease of steering was made
possible by . adopting ball - bearing

High Speed Car With Low Center of
Gravity and Many Engineering
Innovations. *
Detroit, January 4.—After eighteen
months of development work, Dodge
Brothers, Inc., has officially announced the, Victory Six, a passenger car
containing a number of marked innovations. It is long and low in appearance, Capable of sustained high,
speeds, and is priced from $1.'045 to
$1,170; the standard sedan selling at
$1',095 f.o.b. Detroit.
Plans for 1928 at Dodge Brothers
incllude the contiwance of the Standard Four, equipped' with 4-"wheel
brakes and priced At §8(75 for the sedan, and! the Senior Six, priced «>t
$1,595 for the sedan, in addition to
the Victory Six. The .Graham Brcth.-
ers truck division, which lias just
completed the most prosperous year
in its history, will continue to build
commercial cars and trucks of five
capacities; 2-ton,-1%-ton, 1-ton, 3-4-
ton and %-ton. ~
"With this program," says Joseph
H. Th©io2>son, Tpsilanti dealer, "the
Dodge dealers are prepared to meet a
wide raniga of the demand! for automotive transportation. These three
distinct classifications of passenger
cars and five . separate types of
tr.uleks fit into a high percentage of
the public's requirements as indicated by the industry's total sales." "
- Tentative schedules for the year indicate that nearly three-fourths of
Dodge Brothers passenger car production will consist of Victory models including a coupe at $1,045, a
coupe with TSimble seat ait $1,095, a
sedan at $1,095, die luxe sedan at
$1,170, and a de luxe brougham at
$1,170. •
Grilling tests during which more
than 1,000,000 miles were rolled up
by engineers in both experimental
and actual-production models preceded the formal announcement of-the'
Victory. Some of the test ears, on
durability runs.^ware kept going on
the highways until their speedometers showeid! ovier lOO.OO'O miles; speed
performance on the Indianapolis
track demonstrated that the car was
capable of maintaining nearly 70
miles pier hour as an average in
ttiousand-mdle grinds. For months
preliminary to the formal 'announcement, Victory Six models have been
subjected to all sorts and conditions
of roaidwork in all parts of the United States; their drivers taking them
14,000 feet up mountains and far below sea level on western deserts.
Officials of the Dodge company
state that the new car embodies several basic- innovations in automotive
construction and design. To provide
road-ho'ding qualities necessary for
high speeds and!.at the same time to
parnufrths low sweeping "body lines
dictated by fashion without sacrificing roominess or road "clearance,
Dodge Brothers is employing a design
entirely new to the industry. The
baSy and; the chassis. frame, in the
Victory Sis, are a single unit.
Because conventional sills and
cross-members are done away with,
the center of gravity is closer, to the
road and over-all height of the car is
i about at the ordinary man's, hatbrim..
The low center of gravity and union
of chassis and body are said to have
a marked stabilising effect, reducing
side sway and adding greatly to riding comfort. The frame"-of the Victory Six chassis is so deep that no
splash shields aire necessary, thus
eliminating a soiurce of noise.
Further structural distinctiveness
has been obtains! by a novel- type of
body design, which, might be described as a steel shell w^Tded inside an
outer steel shell to form a double
waE with an ai'r space between.
What automotive engineers graphically and untechnieally describe as "tin-
panning" in all-steel body-worts traction effectually has beien suppressed'
by perforations -and other sound-
deadening devices; leaving, they _as-
sert, strength, lightness, appearance,
and absence of .rattles as a net gain.
The engine developed exclusively
for the Victory Six is an L-head, medium duty . type, with bore of 3 3-8
inches and stroke of 3 7-S inches. Pistons are aluminrjm alloy. Seven
bearings support- the Crankshaft,
which turns approximately 1.285 rj).
m. at 25 miles an. hour and about
3,350 r.p.m. at 65 miles an hour. Ba-
c-ause of rigid support and careful
balancing ofi the 52 pound crankshaft,
no counterweights or other vibration
dampeners are used. Gearshift positions are SA.B. standard; namely,
lever to left and back for low and to
right and" back for high.
Four-wheel Lockhead hydraulic,
footbrakes expand internally against
a drum 12 Inches in diameter. The
parking brake contracts on the propeller shaft.

ful driver of the Elliott bus line was
about to leave Adrian, last Thursday
afternoon, for the last run- of the day,
he was informed that would be his
final trip and the concluding one of
the line. Mr. Brruckner had for some
time realized that something was go*
ing to happen:, but had every reason
to believe that ,a Teasonable notice
would "be given him.
On Fridays morning a new bus line
for the Adrian-Ann Arbor route made
its appearance with a new schedule
in effect The new coaches are white
in color, four-door entrance and on,
