I Saline's 1928 chautauqua has pass-
■ ed into history, and marked what is
more than likely t° be the last affair
of the kind our people will have an
opportunity to-attend, owing to the
poor support given it. Less than 200
tickets were sold this year to adults
and children, and the guarantors will
make up the deficit of about 5175.
The programs were as good as in
previous years, and but for the appearance of the Cutler-Griffin Company, who were here on the winter
i lyceum course, the talent was all new
if we except J. Coates Lockhart, the
] inimitable Scotch comedian, who ap-
' peared on the lyceum course a few
years ago. Mr. Lockhart is a genius
in n'is .work, and this year showed
his capabilities as an actor in the pre-

Heroic deeds of the "devil-dogs" of
the United States' Marine Corps in
foreign fields-during war 'time iiave
been adequately lauded the world
over. But a most important peacetime domestic service of the "leathernecks" has gone practically unrewarded. Under recent Congressional
order, the Marine Corps has been detailed to assist in the protection of
valuable U, S. mails in transit. The
effect of the assignment of the marines to the job has made mail holdups uncommon. This great service
heretofore has been almost unrecognized until FBO's moving picture
production, "The Great Mail Robbery," to be shown at the Liberty
theatre Saturday and Sunday. The
central theme of the production is
laid around the defense of a mail
train carrying a fortune in gold, dynamited and besieged by bandits in
a remote mountainous section. The
daring band finally is routed after a
prolonged and desperate battle with
the "leather-necks," providing one of
the most thrilling climaxes ever
screened, and a real tribute to the
U. S. Marine Corps.

We left Lucerne at 9 o'clock on a
mountain train, with an engine en
front and one at the rear, with a cogwheel to catch beside the regular
track. All the way was up moun-
trains; we went through the famous
Brugin pass, which is more than
4,GOO feet above sea level. We could
see snow capped mountains above,
and when one looked over the side of
the slope one could see villages in the
valley. I did enjoy it all so much.
We stopped at Interiaaken, a little
town in the mountain valley and it
is very lovely We have a grand room

Farsons & Dodge have secured the
services of Mr. Edward Harper for
shop foreman. Mr. Harper was formerly at Tecumseh, where his services gave the best of satisfaction.
He is an expert on all kinds of repairs to any make of tractor and to

well recommended as a mechanic,
also a steady and industrious man of
the very best of habits and it is felt
that Saline is gaining a substantial
citizen. He will very shortly move
his family here where he will make
his home. Parsons & Dodge are particularly pleased in securing the services of Mr. Harper and. wish to announce that all work turned out of
