League Leaders Are
Toppled By Saline
Local Team Takes"" Close
Contest To Tune
of 5 to 4.
George Austin Plays Stellar Role At
Bat By Garnering Four Hits
in Five Trips to Plate.
Saline beat the league leading and
hitherto undefeated Teeumseh nine
in as good a game of ball as the season has produced, Sunday on tlie
home diamond. A hit by George Austin in the ninth inning put the game
on ice.
Austin's hitting was a feature of
the day. He connected for four hits
out of five times at bat. in the first
inning he hit a fast traveling low
fiy into right field. Stevenson of
the Teeumseh teaim misjudged the
ball and ran too far up. He reached
for it but the sphere slipped between
his hands and struck him in the head.
It bounded high into the air. The
impact was so hard that Stevenson
was knocked out and was unable to
play the remainder of the game.
Spectators believe that the ball was
one of the hardest ever hit on the
local field.
Hoeft performed on the mound for
Saline and did a good job of it, as
he allowed only seven hits 'and struck,
out eleven men. Crittenden's best
performance was in the second inning
when he struck out three batters in
a row. His strikeout total was
seven.
Goodrich umpired a good game.
Now that the league leaders have
been ousted and have lost their first
games it remains for Ann Arbor to
win a game and erase the zeros from
the won and lost column.

YOUR TOWN
Real towns rare not made by men
afraid
.Lest someone else get ahead;
When everyone works and nobody
shirks.
You can raise a town from the
dead.
And if -while you make your personal
stake
Your neighbor makes one, too,
Your town will be what you want it
to be;
It isn't your town, it's you!
If you want to live in the kind of a
town
Like the kind of a town you'd like,
You needn't slip your clothes in a
grip
And start on a long, long hike.
You will only find what you left behind '
For there's nothing that's really
new.
It's a knock at yourself when you
' knock your, town;—
It isn't your town, it's you!

Saline is the new home of the only
Fordson agricultural tractor agency
in the county, with the opening of
the Fitch Sales Corporation offices
on East Michigan avenue. John A.
Fitch, formerly connected with the
Wood Brothers Thresher Company of
Des Moines, Iowa, is the manager of
the corporation.
Display and service 'rooms occupy
a part of the Boettner building
where complete parts and service departments will be maintained. It is
planned by Mr. Fitch to display a
complete line of fanm implements
which may be utilized with the trac-
Itors. As yet no definite line has been
Selected for distribution but within a
few weeks several will be taken on
so that the company will have one of
the largest selections of farm machinery in the county.
' The Fordson Tractor Company has
placed a new machine on the market
within the last six months and every
type will be available through the
agency.
Mr. Fitch is well known around Saline because of his many business activities in the. locality. He has a wide
experience in the selling field, having
been in that line of work all of his
adult life. For some time he was in
the auction business in Indiana.
Equipment is being steadily installed in the offices of the corporation and may be seen on display
there.

Death Collision Called Un-
Avoidable By Inquest Jury
Richar Called Reckless Because He
Drove Fifty Miles Per Hour
in Village Limits.
A verdict of "unavoidable accident"
was rendered by the coroner's inquest
jury on July 8 concerning the motorcycle and automobile collision which
occurred in Saline July 2, resulting
in the death of Frederick W. Richar
and the injury of Melvin Tyler, both
of Ann Arbor.
Stanley J. Tozer, Omaha, Neb., is
still in jail facing a charge of negligent homicide as the driver of the car
while his companion, Lewis Porter,
also of Omaha, is at liberty on a
charge of violating the prohibition
law.
The jury decided that because the
motorcycle was traveling 50 miles per
hour within the village limits and the
machine had no lights that the motorcyclist was driving recklessly. Testimony upon which the decision was
based was given by Fred Gladish,
route 1, Charles Marken and Willard
Wedemeyer, who witnessed the accident. All agreed that Tozer's car
was on the wrong side of the road.
Tozer stated that he did not see the
motorcycle until it was three feet
from the car. He also stated .that he
and Porter 'had consumed a bottle of
beer between them in Chicago and
that they purchased the bottle of
whiskey found in their car in that
city.
Tyler is still in a serious condition j
in University hospital.

God's image" (p<. 325).
