HALLOWE'EN
Housewives are busy today taking down the summer screens,
bringing ta the roclcing chairs
from ,the porches, putting the
garden hose down cellar and making sure that nothing remains
which could be damaged or taken
away. Why? It's Hallowe'en!
Not only are goblins, witches,
black cats supposed to travel
about after dark but otherwise
good Uttle girls and boys often
do things they would never think
of any other time of year. Now
why is that?
We can't answer, for Hallowe'en
had a different meaning ta the
beginning, or at least in the long,
long ago. Hallowe'en really
means "Hallow even" or hallowed
evening, as it is the evening before All Saints day, celebrated in
some churches as a d!ay set apart
to honor all the saints. It is
November 1 and is followed by
All Souls' Day in honor of the
dead.
Anything which' is hallowed is
reverenced and usually has some
connection with religious ceremonies. Whether people tired of
the lengthy ceremonies and felt
from the Milan Prison.

Why? It's Hallowe'en! Not only are goblins, witches, black cats supposed to travel about after dark but otherwise good Uttle girls and boys often do things they would never think of any other time of year. Now why is that? We can't answer, for Hallowe'en had a different meaning ta the beginning, or at least in the long, long ago. Hallowe'en really means "Hallow even" or hallowed evening, as it is the evening before All Saints day, celebrated in some churches as a d!ay set apart to honor all the saints. It is November 1 and is followed by All Souls' Day in honor of the dead. Anything which' is hallowed is reverenced and usually has some connection with religious ceremonies.
