John LEiRue, secretary of the
Ypsilanti Rotary Club for the
past 20 years, was the speaker at
the meeting of the Rotary Club
at The Tavern last Thursday. His
talk dealt with the organization
of the Saline club in 1929 at
which time he took an active part
in organizing the club with the
help of E. G. Wiedman, also of
Ypsilanti. He also pointed to the
fact that he took an active part
in organizing the Ypsilanti club.
At that time Rotary Internatonal
had a rule that no club could be
formed in a city of l&ss than
5,000 population. They petitioned
Rotary International to "change
the rule, which they did after
several months of consideration,
and now Rotary functions as well
and in most cases better in the
small towns than in the larger
places.
Sgt. Nelson E. Watling of Ypsilanti, guest of A. C. Lange, was
introduced and in reply to questions by the members told many
interesting facts concerning the
campaign by the Allies in North
Africa.
