town and the store windows are
taking on a festive appearance.
Some of the decorators should
go into the business for they
are artists at the trick. Not
everyone has the knack for decorating. CjWe understand that in
the cities some of the department
store Santa Clauses are women.
Well, we are not surprised, with
the shortage of men, but we are
surprised to think that the women didn't think of sending Santa
off to war to visit the poor
sailors and- soldiers, and let Mrs.
Santa do the deed at home. -But
then, maybe -the ladies feel more
at home, in slack costumes, presuming . that '.-Mrs. .Santa is still
old-fa3iioned .enough not to wear
them. C-A- thought came to us-
while 'hearing Dr. --Pollock - last.
Monay night and we wanted to
ask the question, but- time ran
out before we .had the opportunity. It concerns the permanent
disarmament of- Germany. We
are fully in accord with any disarmament program, but we wonder how in the world they are
going to keep Germany disarmed
if they allow all the other nations
ot the world to let their munition
and armament makers export
their goods? Are these manufacturers all going to be, scrupulous
enough to live up to any
such program? Are they going
to be willing to forego any profits
they might make by' illicit sales
to German militarists? It didn't
work after the other war, and we
The Saline Woman's Club met
on Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Francis Lockwood
for a Christmas program. The
business meeting was im charge
of Mrs. Walter MacArthur, and
since the chairman of the program for the day, Mrs. Robert
Merchant, was snowbound^ and
unable to be present, " she
also announced the program. Because of transportation difficulties
several of those on the program
were absent, and the original
schedule necessarily shortened.
Papers to be read on Christmas
customs in France, England and
Germany were omitted but Mrs.
Frank Campbell rendered solos of
carols of each of these countries.
Miss Esther Landwehr read an
article on Russian Christmas customs, and Mrs. • Leo Jensen on
Scandinavian customs. Carols of
these countries were also sung.
Mrs. Merritt Martin presided at
the piano and also played a
Christmas selection An interesting discussion on religious customs followed. . White gifts for
the Children's Aid Society may be
left with Mrs. Lockwood during
the next few days.
