Tap are, no doubt, aware of the
election which will be held this
Friday. Perhaps there are a few
questions which you would like
answered before easting your ballot. The following represent the
questions which have frequently
been asked of the Advisory Coun-
cil. '
1. WHAT DOES A "TES"
VOTE MEAN?
A "Tes" vote means that you
are agreeing to join with the residents of 16 neighboring school
districts to form a new Community
School District. All rr?siden;~ of
this reorganized district will shire
equally the rghts and respon^ibil-
ites of provding educational opportunity for all elementary and
high school students. All school
property of the 17 districts will
be mutually owned and school
costs assessed on an equal basis.
2. WHO WILL CONTROL
THE REORGANIZED DISTRICT?
A new.*borrd of five members
will be elected shortly after re- ■
organization with candidates- being nominated at largo after this
election.
3. WTHERE WILL NEW
SCHOOL BE "LOCATED?
The location of new .milding
sites will be recommendad hy:
1. A survey committee from
the State Department of Public
Instruction.
2. Architects employed by the
Board, and
3. The Saline Community Educational Advisory Council.
These groups will act in accord
with state regulations relative to
school building sites as well as accepted practices in observing such
factors as traffic hazards, availability of land, school population
centers, and transportation xe-
qu;remests. The final decision will
rest w"*h the Boai'd of Education.
4. WHEN WILL COSTS BE
KNOWN?
Precise figures can be released
only by the ^School Board after
consulting experts on school buildings. It is, however, possible to
make a. general estimate based on
the known school populatios and
the average cost per room. This
would amount to a sum heiwecn
§300,000 and §500,000 denc-ndimr
upon the type of naw building
and the extent of oltei'itions desired is the present school building. Using the maximum figure
of $500,000, the average annual
tax rate for a period of 20 years
would be 5 mills. The present
debt service tex in Saline is 5
mills which will not be necessary
after next vear.
5. WHO CAN VOTE?
Any qualified elector in the 17
districts involved is eligible to
vote.
6. WHERE TO VOTE
AND TIME
Vote Friday, March 6, 10 a. m.
to 8 p. m. Saline District No. 1.
Fractional electors will vote in the
city hall. Rural residents will
vote at the Trinity Lutheran
Church, at Michigan and Harris
streets.
