Holds Meeting, August 29
The Annual board of directors
meeting for the, Saiine CominunT
ity Chest was held August 29th at
the Saline Savings Bank.
The following members were reelected for a :3 year'term: Mrs.-
Walter "MacAnthur/Carl' Curtiss,
Leon Vedder, Gerald Coe. One new
member was elected for the coming year, Mrs. Gordon. Esch.
The following officers were elected for the coming year: William K. Meister, President; Lauren Wild, Vice president;, Mill
Luella Lambarth, Treasurer; Mrs.
Walter MacArthur, Secretary, Mr.
Wilson Scott,-fund drive chairman.
The Salin'e Community Chest
Board of Directors will hold a
meeting Sept. 5th at 8:00 p.m. at
the Saline Savings Bank to establish the 1957 "budget. All organizations should send in. their
requests for .funds 'so that they
may be considered at this meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Adair spent
Labor Day in Reading visiting Mr.
Adairs family.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bradshaw Jr.

Hostess For The
Jaycee Auxiliary
Mrs. Jack Steeb was hostess for
a special meeting of the Jaycee
Auxiliary Tuesday evening, August 27th. All members and one
guest were present.
Plans for. the operation of the
gf'oup's fair booth were discussed.
The program planning committee
presented a tentative program
schedule, for the year.
Mrs. Robert Katz, leader of
Brownie Troop No. -3, reported
that a troop flag and staff had
been purchased with a portion of
the money given to the troop by
the Auxiliary. Concern was expressed over news that unless a
Girl Scout Council is formed for
the Saline area local troops may
be asked to disband.
The next .regularly scheduled
meeting will be September 24th
and will be a dinner meeting.

Turns Out Good Crowd
Dancers Dept. Store was showing clothes. All were very good bar-
grins.
Gambles display was attractive. Standing beside it is Mr. LaRose,
proprietor, and representative of Echo Kitchen Ware.

Despite Rainy Weather
The Saline Sidewalk Sale came
off as planned, except it was hindered by rain early Friday morning, ahd. most of the forenoon Saturday. For this sale which is the
first one, there was a very good
turnout for the kind of weather
that was at hand. There were cars
parked on both sides of the streets
which were owned by shoppers at
the sale.
All kinds' of displays, -up and
down Main St., , Ann Arbor-Saline
Road, Saline-Milan Streets. Above
are some pictures of the merchants' displays, and following are
some*of the shoppers' comments on
the idea:

""VMr. Kendall King of 658 W. Michigan;-Ave., was the object of cur-
idu'sity Tuesday, as he sat on the
berrri near Adair's Paint Shop.
Mr. Kendall was making a wat-
er^feolor picture of the North side
of ftOcJiigan Ave., beginning with
the Citizens Bank up to the tower
of 0he Lutheran church.
The Saline fair served as an
incentive for his painting, as he
plans to enter it in the Hobby and
Arts classification at the fair.
Painting is a hobby of Mr. Kendall's and he plans to do other
paintings of Saline at different angles.**
Mr. Kendall is a graduate student at the U. of M., he is studying
Philosophy.
He has lived in Saline for about
a year, but is orginally from California.

little League
Ends Season
The Saline Little League closed
the season with twelve wins in
twelve games.
The team was coached by Harold Frey arid Howard Johnson.
Both men are happy concerning
the outcome of the season, the
first for the Little League.
"Those playing on the team are:
Mike Frey, Gary Finkbeiner, Jack
Kuebler, Ted Graban, Mike Johnson, Mike Cogar, Lyle Cruse, Bill
Davis, Bruce Carr, Chester Riley,
Dick Leidheiser, Gail Finkbeiner,
Raymond Feldkamp, Gordon Wilk,
Eddie Strait, Gary Neithammer
and Jim Bernard.
The pitching for these games
was handled by Bill Davis, Dick
Leidheiser, Mike Johnson and Mike
Frey.
Their losing opponents were Ann
Arbor, Willow Run, Ypsiianti and
Milan.
Many people have commented
on what good sports the Little
Leaguers are.
Much hope is placed in these
boys for future players in the
Babe Ruth League.

The Past Matrons Club will
celebrate the "birthdays of Mrs.
Briggs and Mrs. Davenport at
their meeting September 9th.
All the Saline teachers, elementary and high school, met Tuesday in the gym-cafeteria.

his wife Mr. and, Mrs. George
Culliton from Ontarion Canada.
Glen Hagen and Milton McCarbary left last Thursday to spend a
week at Crystal Falls, Mich. They
will be touring and visiting relatives of Glen's.

The Saline High School football
team began pratice Monday Sept.
2nd. for their 1957 football season.

Returns From
Vacationing
The Rev. ahd Mrs. Henry McKenzie and son Douglas spent last
week touring parts of the Appalachian Mountains. They" were accompanied by Charles Youngs. In
Virginia they drove over the Blue
Ridge Parkway in Shenandoah National Park . and the return trip
was made oyer the new West Virginia Turnpike.
Stops were made in Lynchburg,
Virginia, Charlotte and Davidson,
North Carolina, and in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
In Bucyrus, Ohio, the McKen-
zies .welcomed a new member of
the. family, Dorothy Jean McKenzie, born August 29, the daughter
of the Rev. and Mrs. Hillis McKenzie.
Neil Haarer
Wins Awards
At State Fair
Neil Haarer was awarded first
place in the Jr. Show with his
heifer, and second place with his
steer in the light weight and in
the heavy weight Jr. Showing., at
the Michigan State Fair.
This is Neil's fourth year at the
State Fair, and he is selling his
two steers and bringing back the
two heifers.
Neil also attended a showing in
Lansing where he won Reserve
Champion for his two heifers in
the Jr. and open showing.
He will be showing his steers at
the Saline Community Fair and
also plans to attend the Jackson
Southern Michigan Fat Stock Show.
Most fatal traffic accidents take
place within 25 miles of the victims' homes.
Petite Nancy Keveling, Miss Saline of 1957, will bid for the state's
No. 1 beauty crown, Miss Michigan
State Fair - 1957, when she com- .
petes in the Queen of Queens contest at the State Fairgrounds .on
Wednesday, Sept. 4. The 57' Queen
will be crowned by Gov. G. Men-
nen Williams in the. Music Shell,
8:30 'p.m. as the highspot of the
day-long judging. Miss Saline is
one of the county fair queens that
appeared in the opening day par-:
ade on Friday, Aug. '30. through
Detroit's downtown business section. The 108th.. annual State Fair
opened on Aug. 30 and continues
for 10 days through Sunday, Sept.:
