Mayor's Recommendations and
Routiw Business Transacted.
The council meeting Monday evening with unamious confirmation of
all the Mayor's appointees regardless
of politics presages, it is to be hoped,
a bigger chunk of harmony in oity
government than has been known
these dozen years. Mayor Benner
read no formal message but, assuming the same econimal administration
of affairs as last year in squaring up
debts accumulated from the water
works, reccomended only the
necessary street repairs and the extension of the Fourth street sewer to
the water works power house to>
afford proper means of draining the
engines The estimated cost is S200,
A notice was received from the
state board of health to look after
outlet of the city sewer. A committee was appointed to investigate, A
petition for electric light on Fourth
street west was laid on the table for
the next meeting. The 1907 installment of 81,350 on the water tower
was ordered paid.
By a resolution introduced by alderman Wells the street commissioner and marshal were combined and
it is the understanding that the appointee, Henry Horning, shall be
constantly in the employ of the city,
including keeping order on the
Btreets evenings. It is generally
conceded that improvement in the
latter item is due forthwith.
Neater Dam correspondent.
Just in the prime of girlhood and
when life seemed the very sweetest,
Martha M., daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Heiser of Nester Dam, Arthur
township, peacefully passed from this
earth to the great beyond Tuesday
morning, May, 7th, at the age of fifteen years ten months and twenty-
■ three days. She had been a patient
sufferer for about four months with
rheumatism, pleurisy and heart
trouble.
The funeral was held in the Arthur
town hall Thursday noon. Rev.
Shultz spoke words of comfort to the
friends and she was laid to rest in
Arthur's new cemetery.
Deceased was born July 15th, 1891,
in Melrose, Ohio, where she spent
her childhood until October 6th, 1903,
when she came with her parents to
Nester Dam where she has since resided.
About three weeks ago she commenced to get better and continued
improving until Sunday when she
was taken worse and began to sink
until her death.
During her sickness she sang some
of the old familiar hyms and a short
time before her death she remarked
that she was "ready to go home."
She was of a loving, happy and
cheerful disposition and was liked by
everyone. She leaves a father and
mother, two sisters, Ethel and Ida,
and four brothers, Roy, Ivan, Paul
and Wayne, and a host of friends to
mourn her sad demise.
Six young ladies, schoolmates and
friends of the deceased, were pall
bearers and a large crowd followed
her remains to their final resting
place. The people all unite in extending to the sorrow stricken family
their deepest sympathy.
The Apportionment is $3,274 for
Clare County and $7,345
for Isabella.
The May appointment of primary
money is the same as last year, One
dollar per pupil of school age. The
November amount will be of course,
smaller than that of last year, $10
per child, but it will be a good substantial sum.
Olare county shows a substatlal
gain of children. The census of 1905,
on which the distribution was made
in 1906, gave 3112 children in the
census with 3039 in the apportionment. This year there are 3,274
children in the apportionment. For
Isabella there were 7,404 in the apportionment last year and 7345 this
year.
Watson Hobson.
Watson Hobson was born in England in 1836, at the age of seventeen
he moved to Canada and four years

and O. A. Hobson ot Honor, and
three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Webber
of Alexandria, La, and Mrs. James
Chapel of Lyons, Ind., Mrs. Wm.
Duncan all of whom are living.
In 1869 his wife died and three
years later he married Emma Hover.
Three children were given to them.
Mrs. George Hanley of Detroit, who
died in 1899, J. W. of Jackson, and
V. W. Hobson of Worthington. In
1890 accompanied by his family he
came to Michigan and settled in Vernon township living there, until he
died, May 8th, 1907.
After a brief service at the house
the procession proceeded to the Bap,-
tist church in Gilmore, Rev. J. E.
McDonald preaching the funeral sermon to a large audience of friends
and loved ones. Very appropriate
mufiic was rendered by the Gilmore
choir and the floral offerings were
beautiful.
A wife, seven children mourn the
loss of one who lived a christian life,
and was well known and loved.
"And lo he has gone from ouryearnin_ heart;
He crossed the stream and is gone for aye;
We may not sunder the vail apart
That hides from our vision the gates of day
We only know that his bark no more
May sail with us o'er life's stormy sea;
Yet somewhere I know on the unseen shore
He waits, and watches andbeckons forme."

Just in the prime of girlhood and when life seemed the very sweetest, Martha M., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heiser of Nester Dam, Arthur township, peacefully passed from this earth to the great beyond Tuesday morning, May, 7th, at the age of fifteen years ten months and twenty- ■ three days. She had been a patient sufferer for about four months with rheumatism, pleurisy and heart trouble. The funeral was held in the Arthur town hall Thursday noon. Rev.
