WAS A HUMMER!
Isabella Republican County Convenient at Mt. Pleasant Monday Nominated a Strong
Ticket.
Isabella republicans may well be
proud ot their county convention at
Mt. Pleasant Monday. Not only were
tbe 109 delegates present but there
were also there from all over the
cjunfcy a large number of interested
spectators, They were a fine body of
men and the farmer and the man from
little hamlets were in tbe lead all the
time. AH sorts of combinations were
expected but the man who "delivers
the goods" was not in evidence. In
fact it was plainly evident, that the
percentage of individual action was
very high. In a number of cases it is
known that delegates quietly refused
to support would be candidates from
their own town because they deemed
them unworthy.
Rep. Adams in calling the convention to order, asked in behalf of the
county committee Dr Abbot of Shepherd to be temporary chaiiman. Chas.
Carnahanwas chosen temporary secretary. The usual committees were appointed and then a recess taken fur
dinner. >-.
On reassembling the temporary
organization was made permanent except that Comr. Graham was chosen-
secretary. Resolutions adopted endorsed Rooseveit and Warner and
urged the candidacy of Arthur Hill of
Saginaw as Senator upon the,attention
of Senator Kane and Rep Adams.
Then the real work began. O H.
Adams was renominated for represent
ative by acclamation.
For Sheriff there were seven candid-Jus and for each there was a nominating spe\ch. The flrst bal ot was:
Lester Brlggs 10. W. O Oarnahan 11,
Thomas Gray 1% W. W. Ellis ifc, W. I
Struble 16, Wm Dersnah 18,—Landon
26. Then the bittle went forward ab
first Ellis, Dersnah and Landon all
gaining slowly Finally on the sixth
ballot Eliis' supporters went over (o
Landon giving him the nomination.
Tbat is presumably Mt. Pleasant and
Dierfleld threw their votes to Landon
The flbal ballot was Landon 65, Dersnah 27, Struble 5, fEllis 7 On its
announcement there was a m'gbty
cheer.
For prosecutor F. Dus-mbury re*
ceived 74 votes with I, A. Fancher 28
and O. E. Russell "4.
A. O. Rowladerreceived.for clerk 86
votes with L T. Clark cf Gilmore 18
Oo the treisurersbip J. A. Damon
of Wiedman won with 51 v t j*, F. A

FOr register Martin Menerey was
the choice with 70 votes, S. F. Frye of
Co'd water getting 5, M. Hovey 19 and
H E Duell 10
Other nominations were made by
acclamation* Several of the candidates were called On fot SfieecBes and
then the big county Convention adjourned. -
Friday Sep-ember 28th, ended the
earthly career of Mrs. Augusta Good-
knecht, wife of Frank Goodknecht of
Hatton, who for the past five years
has been gradually falling, but whose
final illness was of but a week's duration-
Deceased was born in Buslar, Germany, December 31st, 1843. In 1883
she came with her family to America
locating at Hatton where she has
scince resided. She was a kind mother, an indulgent parent, and the mem
ory of her good deeds will live on In
the liveB of those who knew her.
Besides her husband she leaves one
son and two daughters: Wm. Goodknecht of Olare, Mrs Paul Nass of
Grant township and Mrs. Fred Clinton
of Seattle, Washington, and one
brother, H. T. Breltag ot Sharon, Kalkaska county, who was at the funeral
and who is the only surviving member
of a family of ten children.

Pleasant Monday Nominated a Strong Ticket. Isabella republicans may well be proud ot their county convention at Mt. Pleasant Monday. Not only were tbe 109 delegates present but there were also there from all over the cjunfcy a large number of interested spectators, They were a fine body of men and the farmer and the man from little hamlets were in tbe lead all the time. AH sorts of combinations were expected but the man who "delivers the goods" was not in evidence. In fact it was plainly evident, that the percentage of individual action was very high. In a number of cases it is known that delegates quietly refused to support would be candidates from their own town because they deemed them unworthy. Rep. Adams in calling the convention to order, asked in behalf of the county committee Dr Abbot of Shepherd to be temporary chaiiman. Chas. Carnahanwas chosen temporary secretary. The usual committees were appointed and then a recess taken fur dinner. >-. On reassembling the temporary organization was made permanent except that Comr. Graham was chosen- secretary. Resolutions adopted endorsed Rooseveit and Warner and urged the candidacy of Arthur Hill of Saginaw as Senator upon the, attention of Senator Kane and Rep Adams. Then the real work began. O H. Adams was renominated for represent ative by acclamation. For Sheriff there were seven candid-Jus and for each there was a nominating spe\ch. The flrst bal ot was: Lester Brlggs 10. W. O Oarnahan 11, Thomas Gray 1% W. W. Ellis ifc, W. I Struble 16, Wm Dersnah 18,—Landon 26. Then the bittle went forward ab first Ellis, Dersnah and Landon all gaining slowly Finally on the sixth ballot Eliis' supporters went over (o Landon giving him the nomination. Tbat is presumably Mt. Pleasant and Dierfleld threw their votes to Landon The flbal ballot was Landon 65, Dersnah 27, Struble 5, fEllis 7 On its announcement there was a m'gbty cheer. For prosecutor F. Dus-mbury re* ceived 74 votes with I, A. Fancher 28 and O. E. Russell "4. A. O. Rowladerreceived.for clerk 86 votes with L T. Clark cf Gilmore 18 Oo the treisurersbip J. A. Damon of Wiedman won with 51 v t j*, F. A Whitehead of Mr. Pleasant receiving 53. . FOr register Martin Menerey was the choice with 70 votes, S. F. Frye of Co'd water getting 5, M. Hovey 19 and H E Duell 10 Other nominations were made by acclamation* Several of the candidates were called On fot SfieecBes and then the big county Convention adjourned. - Friday Sep-ember 28th, ended the earthly career of Mrs. Augusta Good- knecht, wife of Frank Goodknecht of Hatton, who for the past five years has been gradually falling, but whose final illness was of but a week's duration- Deceased was born in Buslar, Germany, December 31st, 1843. The valuation Is also rais* d a few thousands and thus the rate will be considerably lower. The total amoun-F of tax is $1957 68 less than last year and of this 81405 85 is on school tax. Tbe council finding the impera' ive need of all money possible to pay oil obligat'ons accumulated from last year have voted the utmost limit of city tax under the charter. In fact it Ib questionable whether the $391.32 is nor, beyond the limit, but as the treasury is empty with notes outstanding probably pobody wili particularly obj -ctto this amount IN GOOD OLD ISABELLA.
