A "WORD TO R. F. D. PATRONS.
Place your mail box in the most convenient place for the. carrier. Under
the law he does not have to cross a
ditch or make a raise of ground to
deliver mail.
Set your box (4) four feet high. In
case of four corners the boxes must be
placed in a row on the corner.that the
carrier turns. Where two or more
boxes are to be placed on a corner a
good way is to set two posts and put a
2x6 across and place the boxes in line
on it.
It is the aim'ofithe E. F. D. department to give thejbest of service and it
requires the hearty cooperation of the
.patrons to do so. A delay of ■ a few
seconds at each box means an hour or
more delay on the entire route.
Not any kind of old mail box will do
but the box must be one of the many
approved by the postmaster general.
Any. letter sent from any point on
an R F. D. route to any other point
whether on such a route or not must
have a two cent stamp. or any letter
sent from any point whatsoever to an
R F. D. route must have a two cent
stamp;

January Circuit Court,
The January term of circuit court
for Clare county convenes at Harrison
the second Monday of the month.
The cases to be tried are comparatively unimportant. It had been expected that certain persons would be
brought to answer for the disgraceful
deeds enacted at Temple last summer,
but for some reason, only one case, indirectly 'connected with the affair
charging the selling of liquor after
hours, is likely to be on the calendar.
Some of the. officials are pretty emphatic, however, in insisting that justice shall be done. The. jurors called
are as follows:
Frost—R. P. Waley and John Weeks.
Franklin—Charles Butts.
Garfield—Wm. Clark and Burt
Alley.
Grant—Freeman McCarey and Orin

UNIVERSITY OF MICHI8AN GYMNASIUMS,
The above cut,represents the two
gymnasiums of Michigan's university,
erected for $125,000- One, the Waterman, is for men; the other, the Barbour, for women. They are, however,
separate plants, but on special occasions the large folding doors connecting them are thrown open and they
are used jointly. The maiD floor of
"tbe former is a -rectangle. 80x150 feet,
equipoed'wfih apparatus for physical
exercises for students. A number of
rooms are for punching the bag, fencing, boxing, etc., while the basement
is equipped for hiiths. A 'gallery
above provides an elliptical running
track 375 feet long. Keene FiiEgat-
rick is director with Dr. George May
as assistant. The Barbour gymnasium, entrance to which- is not- in
view, has a main floor of 88x90 feet
and contains apparatus required for
the first and second year exercises for
women. It also contains parlors for
the accomodation of women and bathing .facilities. Dr. Alice B. Snyder is
director. Special care is taken to ascertain tbe exact physical'co'ndltion
of each student, Defects of the body
are found and corrective work prescribed. Tennis, basket ball and gym
nastjc games form a part of the ic-
creative work, •
It js an interesting sight to watoh
young men taking exercises in the
Waterman gymnasium, but much
more enjoyable to be one of the number participating. First and second
year men are required to take a cer-
tain'amouut of work. , To take such
exercises as bring into play all the
muscles of the body, then to take a
shower bath and a good rub down,
gives to the body such a feelina of ex-
billration as comes' from no other
source and the many who with regularity during the school year thus take
care of their body is one of the most
helpful things, of life at Michigan's
seat of learnings
