Grand Rapids Goes Republican by
1 2,500 Majority.
(Mayor Perry of Grand Rapids was
renominated on the democrat ticket.
AVthur R. Rood was the republican
nominee. Unfortunately Mr. Rood
died shortly after his nomination.
Saturday afternoon W. Millard Palmer's name was placed on the ticket,
and by Monday evening he was declared
elected by a 2,500 majority. This vast
majority against Mayor Peny probably resulted from the waterworks
scandal.
Thanks, Gentlemen.
I wish publicly to express my thanks
to the republicans of Clare who cast
their vote for me at the city election
Monday. James O'Connor
Some of That Country's Curiosities Exhibited Here.
A really meritorious exhibition of
Philippine-curiosities is to be seen in
the car now standing on the track near
the depot. The exhibit is in charge
of Wanton Stanley WebD, who went
to Manila as a war correspondent-
when the insurrection there began*
He is an entertaining taiker, and as-
he explains the various curiosities and.'
photographs which adorn the car, one
becomes impressed, unconsciously,
perhaps, that he is himself the principal part of the exhibition. Yet there
is nothing strange about that, as he
collected them all and thus becomes
inseparable from'them. A half day
could easily be spent in studying the
many interesting natural products off
the Philippines and Hawaiian Islands,
to beseen and tbe exhibition is .certainly worth double the price it cost*
to see it.—15c, 10c for children 12 years-
of age and under.—Elyrla, Ohio, Eventing Reporter,. E. G. Johnson, 3Sb^,.'
editor, Saturday May 4, 1901.
