EX-MAYOR MUSSELL DEAD.
Passed From This Life Early Sunday Morning.
Robert M. Musseli, one of Clare's
most prominent business men, died at
his home, west Seventh street, Sunday morning, April 20th, at live
o'clock, the immediate cause of death
being acute spinal meningitis. Mr.
Musseli had been enjoying his usual
health and his sudden demise was a
shock to bis entire circle of friends.
Deceased was born near Ogdens-
burg, N, Y, April 8th, 1862, near
which place he was reared, lu 1876
he went to Dakota and while a resident of that state he worked in a
drug store and thus obtained his first
knowlege of the business which he
was afterwards to follow. In 1879 he
came to tbis country and was employed

as bookkeeper by A, W. Wright, later
embarking'! n the drug business. On
July llth, 1882, he was married to
Miss Anna E, Husted, who for the
past twenty years has been his devoted and affectionate wife, and who
still survives him,
For tine past twenty years Mr.
Musseli has been a prominent figure
JB the history of Clare, in a business'
way* socially and politically. In the
latter he was always found, on the
demOCiat Side attd'was for three years
mayor b* the city and while It was
still a village he was one of its trustees. His dealings wore always honorable afid business like and the deep re
spect in which he was held was
envinced by the large concourse of
friends who escorted the remains to
the cemetery.
He was a member of John Q. Look
lodge Eo. 404, F. & A. M., Clare, of
which lodge he was for three years
Worshipful Master, also a member of
Mt. Pleasant Chapter and a year ago
took the 32nd degree at Detroit. He
was also a member of the I. O. F., I.
O. O. F., K. of P. Elks, 0. E. S. and
U. L. G-., all of which orders sent
beautiful emblamatic tributes in
memory of their deceased brother.
Besides these elaborate floral tributes
there were many beautiful ones from
friends, also from the city officials, a
beautiful pillow, and from the Guild of
which society Mrs. Musseli is a worthy
member.
The funeral service was held at the
home Thursday morning at eleven
o'clock, at which time the business
places were closed. The service was
in charge of the Masonic fraternity, a
large number of Masons from Harrison, Coleman and Farwell attended.
Rev. A. L. Woodlock delivered a very
appropriate sermon from the text, "At
Evening Time it Shall be Light."
Deceased leaves a wife, one son,
Arthur, besides four brothers and one
sister, three of whom were in attendance at the funeral, 1. E. Musseli of
Drayton, N. Dak., A. J. Musseli and
daughter of Bayfield, Wis., J. P. Musseli and daughter, Mrs. Agnes Champagne, of Alpena, Mich., J. H.
Musseli of Fresnol, Gal*, and. Mrs.
John Barton of Drayton, IS". Dak,, the
two latter named not being able to attend. Also Mrs. T. J. Martin of
Alexandria, Ind., and Roy Husted of
Flint, Mich., were in attendance.
The bereaved family feel their loss
very deeply for a loving- and kind
member has been removed from the
home circle and all those who knew
the worth of his friendship feel keenly
their loss for In sickness or trouble he
was always ready and eager to" help
and he proved himself an invaluable
friend to the many. His genial smile
and pleasant ways will be missed from
among us but mostly will he be missed
by the wife and son in their now
broken home. The sympathy of the
entire community is theirs. .

Whereas, He was the Worshipful
Master for several years of our craft
and presided over us with justice and
kindness* be it
Resolved, That our sympathy be
extended to the bereaved wife and son.
That the Charter of this Lodge be
draped in mourning for a period of
thirty days. That, a copy of these
resolutions be delivered to the wife
and son of our departed brother, and
Further, That these resolutions be
published in the Clare Courier and the
Olare Sentinel in its first issue subsequent to this date.

value of bis labor in behalf of the
Order:
, Whereas, The Great and Supreme
Ruler of the universe has in his infinite wisdom removed from among us

Whereas, His long and useful life
and his faithful discharge of every duty
in the many offices held by him make
it eminently fitting that we should record our appreciations of him, therefore be it
Resolved, That the wisdom and
ability which be has exercised in the
aid of our order by service and council
will be held in grateful remembrance,
Resolved, That the removal of
Brother Past Grand Robert M. Musseli
from tho ranks of Odd Fellowship
leaves a vacancy which will be felt by
many.
Resolved, That with deep sympathy with tbe bereaved wife and son of
the deceased, we express our hope
that even so great a loss to us all may

At a' special meeting of the Common Council held Tuesday evening
April 22bh, 1902, the following Resolution was passed by a unanimous vote:
Robert M. Musseli, our former
Miyor, has been removed from our
midst. By his public acts and charitable purposes be endeared himself to
all who knew him. As a citizen he was
worthy, public spirited, generous, true
and esteemed. . As an officer he was
well qualified, loyal, progressive, ever
alert to the interests of our City.
His departure is an irreparable loss
to his family, his friends and this
City.
Therefore It is resolved by the Common Councillor the City of Glare that
we endeavor to express our sincere
sorrow at the sad affliction which has
befallen us, and extend to his bereaved
wife, son and relatives our heartfelt
sympathy In this sad hour. That
this resolution be spread on the records
of this City and published in the City
papers and a copy thereof be presented
to the family.

Musseli, departed this life on Sunday,
April 20, last, and
Whereas, Pythians bow in humble deference to the inscrutable mandates of a
Snpreme Ruler whose wisdom has shown
through the mists of centuries.
Whereas, in the demise of onr beloved brother this lodge has lost a Knight
whose heart throbbed in harmony with
the precepts of fraternal affection and
whose voice was ever lifted in pronouncement of the brotherhood of man, while
his hand smoothed the furrows of sorrow
upon the brow of the unfortunate. Therefore be it
Resolved, that while our grief mingles
with that of the bereaved family we realize our inability to condone the loss, but
such sympathy as God has made possible
