GRADE McE WAN STREET.
The Council Authorizes the Board
of Works to Proceed.
At last evening's session of the
board ot alderman the board of works
were authorized to grade McEwan
street, which comprises the mile of
road north of the county line. As to
the amount of expenditure tlie board
of works are not limited,
Wm, Laundry was also appointed
marshal, His duties at the P. M.
car shops prevent him from giving
the office proper attention unless he
resigns his position to give his entire time to the office. But Clare is
a prettv good city, and sb doesn't
need a marshal's whole attention.
THE MASS MEETING.
The Clare Industrial Association
A Result,—Another Meeting Monday Evening.
In response to a proclamation of
Mayor Lacy about fifty men met in
the council chamber Monday evening and an industrial association was
formed which will be completed next
Monday evening, Mayor Lacy, L, JB.
Davy and S. 0. Kirkbride were made
a committee to draft by-laws, and
Aid. Doherty and G. E. Dawson were
made a committee to solicit funds
for celebrating the Forth of J uly.
The spirit of progress and permanency has seized hold of Glare and the
present outlook is that no stone will
remain unturned to give Clare a
permanent boom. We want industries for tlie employment of labor at
a good wage, and any town or city
having* such industries is a progressive community. Remember to attend the meeting Monday evening,
at the couacll rooms.

interesting fact, that an increase of
61 per cent in number, and of 35.6/ per
cent in the total attendance of our
Sundays chools in Clare Co. has taken
place during the two years past.
Statistics show .that goed Sunday Schools are as vitally related to
the prosperityof a county as" is our
well-regulated system of day schools,
and our county is beginning to" realize
and profit by the fact.
The next county convention will
be held at Farwell. All district officers are urged to begin at once to lay
plans for a district rally in August,
and Sunday schools' are requested to
plan their picnics for the date of this
district rally.
