A Stinging Rebuke Administered to Democratic

ELEVEN CONGRESSMEN, LEGISLATURE REPUBLIGAN WITH

I
The Entire County Ticket Elected From Sheriff to

Tbe Eepublicans of Clare county I Eepublican policies and President
are entirely satisfied with tbe election I Eoosevelt and his co-workers in the
in the nation, state and county. "With j present administration has been un-
ment in their utterances on state
issues or any other issues, Democratic campaigners added a wealth of
catchy phrases and striking epithets,
all manufactured for the Anti-every-
thing campaign. Frdm beginning to
end it has been the denunciation and
arraignment of all existing conditions. The integrity of Eepublican
officials has been imputed (by insidious implication) and counted as
naught. Eepublican leaders have
been branded as boodlers, and office
holders as parasites living on the very
life's blood of the state. Even the educational system of Michigan has been
said to be in the bands of cheap politicians and faddists. Everywhere it
has been proclaimed that the whole
government is rotton to the core.
For two months tbis torrent of abuse
has been sweeping over our fair state
until it-seemed that no man's integrity but that of a Democrat was left
unimpeached. But last Tuesday the
people of our fair ^ Michigan went
quietly to the polls arid hurled all the
false charges right back in the teeth
of the traducers of the Eepublican
party of our state, saying in words
clear and distinct, "Look ye to your
own party ere you dare come forward
and like the Pharisse of old proclaim
1 ar.>. holier than thou.' " The two
months' campaign of denunciation
has been all in vain and the Democratic party of Michigan today shows
no more capability for constructive

government than it has for the last
forty years.
The victory is a notable one and
great credit is due to chairman Diek-
ema and Secretary Alward of the Re-
OONGRESSMAN DARRAGH.
Re-elected by a Majorioy 10,000
publican state central committee for
tbe way in which the campaign has
been conducted. While Democratic
papers and orators were asserting that
Eepublicans dare not meet state
issues, the two men prepared a pamphlet on state issues, setting forth in
sucb a lucid way the facts as to our
state government that it completly
overturned all the fibs and fallacies of
Democratic doctrinaires. Quietly this
pamphlet was distributed all over the
state and it had a marked political educational influence in the state.
Great credit is due to our townsman, T. S. Dorsey, for the clean energetic campaign he made, winning
victory in the very face of the fact
that nearly all the effort of Democrats was centered in supporting his
opponent, Mr. Hughes, of Harrison,
whom they regarded as their strongest candidate'on the county ticket.
In a table below we give in detail
the vote in Clare county and we suggest that Eepublicans keep it for future reference. At the opening of the
county campaign the Sentinel took
the position that all the men on both
tickets were honorable men and no
word of insinuation has been made
againstanyone of them in these columns. Two years ago there were
1,850 votes in Olare county while now
in an "off year" no less than 1,660
were recorded, showing the growth
of the county. The vote shows the
whole county working together nnit-
edly, having interests in common,
without regard to north or south, east
or west, country or town.
Election Echoes.
Blind pitts don't go.
It's a clean sweep. Hurrah for our
side!
This was "the united Democracy"
that Ave went up against.

imperialist, free trade, agin-the-gov-

The great efforts of the enemy were
concentrated against Sheriff Updegraff, Prosecuting Attorney Cummins,
and Thomas S. Dorsey but without
avail.
This is the first time in fifteen years
that the "blind pig" was brought out

GOVERNOR AARON T. BLISS. * -^
Ee.elected Chief Magistrate of Michigan by a Majority of 35,000.
When Sheriden wants a couple of
Clare city Democrats to come out and
work that town with budge on election day, they will send for 'em.
Our greetings to Congressman Darragh and Senator Doherty. Four
hundred majority in Clare county is a
pretty good showiDg, thank you.
There's weeping and wailing and
gnashnig of teeth in free'sttver, anti-
to bolster up the Democratic party in
.this end of the county. It probably
won't happen again very.soon.
William E. Aldrich has a good kick
coming, same as M. P. Robinson of
Farwell had two years ago. The
Democrats evidently put him ori the
ticket solely for trading purposes.
The people have spoken and legis-.
tered their determination, to <'let well
enongh alone.'* ■
