JANUARY GRADUATES:
It was moved by Walter Wightman, seconded by James Umphrey and carried
that the list of Prospective Graduates for Degrees and Certificates for the
January 24, 1970 commencement be approved. (Copy on file in the Secretary's
Office).
COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER:
NIotion was made by James Umphrey, seconded by Roger Busfield and carried
that the January, 1970 commencement speaker, Jacqueline Grennan Wexler,
be awarded an honorary degree from this institution.

ELECTION OF BOARD OFFICERS:
It was moved by James Umphrey, seconded by Katha rine Hafstad and carried
that Lloyd Cofer's nomination of Roger Busfield as Chairman and Alfred Fortino
05 Vice Chairman, be approved and that a unonimous ballot be cast. Unanimous
opproval was also given to the re-election of Norvoll Bovee 05 Treasurer. The
Board members expressed their appreciatfon to Alfred Fortino for his efforts as
Chairman during 1969.
SPEECH AND DRAMATIC ARTS BUILDING:
It was moved by Roger Busfield, seconded by Katharine Hafstad and carried that
the new Speech and Dramatic Arts Building, presently under construction, be
named in honor of Dr. Wilbur E. Moore, Vice President Emeritus, in recognition
for the years of service Dr. Moore gave this University and particularly for
his efforts In the speech and dramatic arts field.
BEAVER ISLAND SCHOLARSHIP:
IY\otion was made by James Umphrey, seconded by Roger Busfleld, a nd carried
that out of consideration for the courtesies the people of Beaver Iskmd have
shown this University, it might be apprapriate If this Soard provided a scholarship
to a deserving student from the Beaver Island Public Schools. The administration
is requested to work out the details for the award.
COMMITTEE ON HOUSI NG REPORT:
Norva II Bovee reported that no report was avai lable at this time since the first
meeting of the committee was scheduled for December 18.
STUDENT HOUSING REPORT:
Dr. Boyd announced that he has received from both the A.W.S. and the
Student Senote requests for changes in women's hours and regulations governing
room visitations . He reported that he had scheduled a special women's
representative assembly meeting far January, In order to a .. iennlne from the
women themselves precisely what changes they thought were desirable. He
has also asked Professor William Hawkins, Chairman of the Psychology
Department, to work with student representatives in preparing a questionnaire
on student housing preferences for use at registration during the second
semester . Dr. Boyd indicated his hope that the university might be able
to offer at least two or three different options to students desiring to live
on campus during the academic year 1970-71.

VICE PRESIDENT FOR PUBLIC SERVICES, SELECTION OF:
Dr. Boyd presented to the Boord 0 Srudent Senote resolution requesting student
representotion on screening committees estoblished for the selection of vice
presidents. He indicated his support for the request, but odded that unilateral
Boord oction would be inoppropriate becouse the original policy hod been
worked out in conjunction with the University Senote. He suggested that the
resolution be sent to the Senote for action ond that he be allowed to involve
students infonnol1y In the search for 0 vice president for public services, pendIng
official Sanote action on the proposal.
PTS SALARY SCHEDULE:
Dr. Norvall Bovee distributed 0 proposed PTS salary schedule ond 0 travel
allowonce recommendotion to the Boord members for their study before the
Jonuory meeting.
NIT. Austin Buchonan, Director of Admissions, gave a report on the operations
of the Admissions Office. (Copy of MT. Buchanon's report on file In the
Secretory's Office).
The next meeting of the Boord will be Jonuory 21, 1970.
