RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE "INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE CHILD":
It was moved by Mrs. Katharine Hafstad, seconded by Mr. Alfred Fortino, and
carried , that the following resolution be adopted. Mr . Farhat abstained.
WHEREAS The President of the United States, on April 14, 1978,
by Executive Order, estoblhhed the Notional Commin ion on the
International Year of the Child, 1979; and,
WHEREAS One of the funct ions of the Notional Commission, in
promoting 'the Internati onal Year of the Child, is to give special
a ttention to the health, education, soc ial environment, physicol
and emotiona l development, and legal rights and needs of ch ildren
that are unique to them as children; and,
WHEREAS This func tion of the Notional Commhsion is congruent
with the philO5Ophies and stated purposes of Centrol Michigan
Univenity as, throughout its history, the University has endea vored
to wpport and improve the quolity of education for the children of
Michigan; and ,
WHEREAS, The State Board of Education of the Siote of Michiga n,
on Novembef- 15, 1978, by resolution, has called upon all institutions
of publ ic education in the State of Mich igan 10 support and
further the work of the Notional Commin ion as that work relates
to the schooling and educational experiences of children in the
State;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, That the Boord of Trustees of Central
Michigan University supports the State Boord of Education in its
